The past 2 years I've drank more Miller Lite than I have anything else. It's cheap, it hits the spot after a long day, and it's accessible. I can stop at any store or gas station and grab a six pack for the night or a case for the weekend. I've outlived my 200 dollar craft beer trips. I don't find it necessary any longer. "Craft" beer anymore is few and far between. I don't crave it the way I used to and the illustrious styles and "ticking" mentality has left the building for me. I'd make a safe bet that the last 20-30 craft beers I drank aren't even rated here simply due to the fact I don't care that much anymore. A few beers in the afternoon is about relaxing, AAL allows that without the exorbitant cost nor the pressure to enjoy and pick apart the 4 dollar a can beer I just bought.

Yes. I buy some Lord Chesterfield every spring/summer, although to be picky it's listed here as an English Pale Ale. Fits the spirit of your question if not the strict definition.

I've been aiming to get some low abv beers so thanks for reminder about Reading Premium. Been way too long since my last purchase.

Lord Chesterfield is fermented with a lager yeast strain, it is a lager. Enjoy!

    Cheers!

I typically pick up Moosehead, Budweiser, Schlitz and/or Old Style each Summer (typically between 6-24 total, depending on freshness). I also like picking up a six pack of 16 oz Colt 45 (Malt Liquor) if I find fresh, with Fall/Spring weather my preferred season.

Michelob (American Lager) was my favorite mass produced beer, and was sad to see it phased out. I also like Upland Champagne Velvet (Pre-Prohibition AAL) and similar beers. 1980s/1990s Michelob Light was the only Light Lager beer I enjoyed over the years.

We all have different tastes, and there are AALs people like that I find have minimal taste, and there are plenty who feel the same about my AAL preferences. On BA, I try to stay positive about discussing beer choices, beyond honest observations writing a formal beer review.

Agree when it comes to AALs what the point in arguing on the forums with “your crazy for not liking (insert AAL)”. Just let people state how their taste buds assess the beer and enjoy the conversation.

Occasionally. I enjoy certain ones like Coors Banquet, Rainier, Icehouse or Moosehead from time to time. I also like trying some that are new to me. For example, I purchased a short-case of Tecate a few months back and despite it being fairly watery it was good.

I realize this is BA and not Craft BA, that said, I joined this site to learn about quality beer. I broke away from AAL in 2014.

I don't frequently purchase, but I also won't turn one down. I haven't forgotten my roots.

I am in the process of reading the book Modern Lager Beer by Jack Hendler and Joe Connolly. Both of those gentlemen work for Jack’s Abby Brewing (and Jack is a co-owner & brewer).

I am only 1/3rd of the way through the book so far (a great read!) and today on pages 86 – 88 there is discussion about Schell Brewing with the statement: “Most Americans, even those with a love of American lager, haven’t had the opportunity to try Schell’s Deer Brand beer. That’s something that ought to change!”

Below is how Schell’s Deer Brand beer is described on BA:

“Schell's Deer Brand was developed prior to Prohibition and has been Schell's flagship beer ever since. Brewed from 70 percent barley malt, 30 percent corn, and our unique 'Schell' yeast, Deer Brand is full flavored American Lager.”

Unfortunately for me, Schell’s beer is not distributed to my area but if it was available I most certainly would buy a six-pack of Deer Brand beer both because of the recommendation from Jack & Joe but also the above description reads tasty.

    Cheers!

I drank Schell's Beer (now Deer Brand) several times in the 70s, and didn't find it noticeably better or worse than most other beers on the market at that time (and I tried many, especially small brewery products). Maybe it has retained more of the old character than most of the other American lager beers on the market (maybe it's even "improved"). It's not sold in my area, so no opinion. I'd say that the differences in the style are subtle, and preferences generally depend on personal taste. On a vacation, stranded away from more flavorful beer, I actually identified what I would say is a very enjoyable American style lager. Personal taste? Influenced by the relaxed surroundings? Was the packaging more attractive? Who knows? That beer isn't distributed in my home market either, but I don't really miss it.

Have sampled Deer Brand beer along with a number of other beers brewed by Schell. Some were better than others, but all I can say is that their definition of a full flavored American lager is different than mine.

LOL! Doesn't mean it isn't any good or that you might not like it. But calling it a full flavored lager smacks of the kind of BS marketing I'd expect from a BMC type of brewery.

Yes, and I'm not ashamed of it lol! I do enjoy craft beer at a restaurant, but I can't afford a 6-pack of my favorites very often. So, I usually drink PBR, Miller High Life, or occasionally Coors Banquet for the price primarily and the taste as a close second. I also enjoy going to heavy metal/punk rock concerts, and cheaper beers like those usually fit with the overall atmosphere of the show.

You get a "Like" just for proper use of Microbrew instead of Craft Beer.

Why would I drink a Bud when a Chuckanut or Pfriem Pils is right there?
