Yes. It was Younger's IPA in a pub run by the father of one of my brother's classmates. A classic Scottish IPA, beautifully malty.

I am thinking it was Harpoon ipa. Also it could of been something by Magic Hat.

I would wager it was likely something in either a Lagunitas or Stone mixed pack, some time in late spring/early summer 2018. I remember enjoying Tangerine Express early on and it was a staple for some time, realized I hadn’t reviewed until just a few months ago so it was good to have that again. 90 Minute was the first IPA (and beer) I ever reviewed on BA, in fall 2018

COOP F5. That was smack dab in the middle of the IBU arms race and I did not much care for it (I believe they were still refining their brewing process a bit). In fairness to COOP, I've never been a terribly big fan of West Coast IPAs, but I'm sure it's improved quite a bit since I last had it which is approaching 8 years ago

I don’t remember by first IPA exactly, I do remember drinking them “casually” prior to my joining of beer advocate and generally enjoying them without remember much detail.

I do, however, remember my first Hopslam which was very early into by BeerAdvocate’ism (early 2010) and it was somewhere between an eye opening, and a life changing, experience haha

"Scottish IPA" I have never seen those two words paired. Intriguing.

I'm hoping to read a person's first IPA experience with Green Flash's Palate Wrecker. :grimacing::grimacing:

I have a vivid memory of my first IPA. It was at the Library Alehouse in Santa Monica in the spring of 2003, Stone IPA. It blew my mind. He told me I could get 6pk at the store down the street so I went and grabbed a 6 on my way home.

My first IPA was not an IPA. Let me explain. Growing up in Nova Scotia my first IPA would definitely have been Alexander Keith's India Pale Ale. However, it's an IPA in name only. There's really nothing IPA about it.

Pretty sure it was around 2010 or so, had this thing called a "Celebration" at the Portsmouth Brewery - the first Brewpub in NH. And I couldn't stand it. Fast forward 10 years and I've gone through at least 6 12 packs this season of that "Celebration".

Ballantine : When the drinking age changed to eighteen in New Jersey in January 1973, my father bought me a six pack. I thought it was horrible. What do you know when you're nineteen.

second IPA : Charrington in London in 1976

My first ever IPA was Crew Republic's In Your Face, a German West Coast'ish IPA that I actually still find pretty enjoyable and has stood the test of time well enough, even though it could be a bit more bitter and resinous for the style. Such a shame that they sold out to ABInBev since then, being the first and only German craft brewery to do so to my knowledge.

Was 21 and out to dinner with the wife’s family. Her dad and I decided to try this beer called Surly Furious, not knowing a damn thing about anything other than Busch Light. We both ordered 24oz mugs. Took my first sip and said alright that’s a lot of that to finish. Polished off mine then father in law hands me his and says not for me. It was a start to a beautiful thing

Sierra Nevada Celebration in '94 I think? That was one hoppy beer back then, along with Old Crusty Barley wine.
That was when IPA's were well balanced for the most part. Not like the lawn clippings in a bottle nowadays.
