I haven't been drinking beer for very long; all we had back home were the usual macros. Then, late last year, I was working at a local World Market and started ogling the beer selection. I built my own six-pack, and off I went (no alcohol discount for employees :slight_frown:). The first beer I tried was on my birthday; it was a Sam Adams Boston Lager. It was my first taste of craft beer, and even though I don't think it lived up to the hype, it opened my eyes to the world of better beer. I would really like to try it as fresh as possible, or draft, to see if I like it more.

What was your introduction to really good beer?

Yes. Im surprised I remember. It was a gloriously drunken evening. I got invited by some science majors to drink in a science lab in the science building. Intrigued, I obliged. I was handed a Great Lakes Edmund Fitzgerald. Im not sure I was ready, but I love the hell out of that beer. I drank it, saying it had some coffee, well alot of coffee.

Then they handed me 18 month old Wild Turkey, and I ended up drunk at Relay for Life playing football. yea, great story, but still it started me on the of great beer. Thanks twaddlac!

Growing up my father was a Budweiser drinker. Since I was about 10, I remember him letting my brother and I take a small sip of his beer. I actually enjoyed it at such a young age, which I guess is weird.

My first "full" beer was a warm Red Dog smuggled from my friends parents when I was about 15 years old. It probably tasted disgusting but my adrenaline was flowing from drinking a beer underage that it could have been cat piss and I wouldn't have cared.

My segway into the craft world started out probably around my senior year of high school. I had a Blue Moon at a party and thought it was god's gift to earth. My brother was just hitting age 21 around that time, and I saw him bringing home 6 packs of Magic Hat #9 and SNPA. Tasted a few of those and the rest is history. Spent a semester in Belgium during my Sophomore year of college, and tried nearly every beer I could find over there.

Freshman year, this girl named Suzy... Oh wait! Beer! My first beer ever was a Keystone Premium. God it was awful. My first good beer ever was a Rogue Chocolate Porter (I think, or was it stout?)

First beer was a 40oz of Budweiser that my friend's older sister got for us to drink while we played cards. First craft was from a Saranac (I'll be damned if I can remember which one) sampler that my dad got as a gift.

I'm really turning some gears here and I can't for the life of me remember my first beer. What a damn shame... must not have been that good. My first drink was out of a flask of Smirnoff and Sprite in 8th grade in between classes - haven't had it since.

Edit: I remember my first 'eye opener' was 1554.

yes, it was a Duvel, I just wanted to try something different in the one bar that sold non macro beers in the whole town. Of course I had no idea of the concept of macro, micro, craft etc, to be there was beer period.

Back in high school it was all macro and 40's of malt liquor, but my friend's old man pretty much only drank Berghoff Dark. I guess that was my first craft brew, and I'd like to add, this was well before Minhas Brewery produced Berghoff. I remember it being pretty good, but if I had one now, I suspect I may feel differently.

Def was an Old 21 for me by the brew kettle. My dad always went there so I went to get dinner with him. Started getting served when I was 17! Gotta love patron fathers!
