I haven't reviewed most of the beers I have had. If I know I'm going to have the beer again, I am less apt to review it because ill just think "I can do a review another time". If its a one-off, limited release, or price prohibitive beer, I'm more likely to do a review because I may not have it again soon.

And I can't understand why anyone would take copious notes and write numerous detailed beer reviews "for themselves". After several hundred of them, do you stay up until near dawn admiring your own prose? What a waste of time.

Think of all the stupid shit people do with their time. If someone loves beer and wants to document their experience so what. It doesn't impact you negatively and actually the backbone of this site you are enjoying is based on user generated reviews of beer and places.

Btw, you don't have to be a jack ass to make your point.

I review most of the beers I drink. I used to do every single one, but I decided to just enjoy them more and only review if the spirit moved me.

    Get it?

Okay, beer's not technically a spirit, but come one, a little credit?

True, but I AM a jackass, so how else could I respond??

Actually, the forums are the "backbone" of this site. The place reviews are next. Beer reviews are only important to those who think others care about their opinion about a given beer.

I do not review every beer on here, but I keep track of every beer I have ever had along with an academic scoring system (A-F) on an excel spread sheet, because I am an f'n geek.

Almost every beer. Sometimes if I'm out for dinner and order something and don't feel that I can do the beer justice with all the other distractions/limitations, no. But since I do most of my drinking at home I'd say I review 99% of all new beers I try.

Not anymore. Between "Hads" and Untappd, I can put the small ticks there. I still do review the majority of brews I have though, it's a habit by now. What I don't understand is the " don't want to be rude by taking notes" attitude. Sure if you're having a quiet, intimate moment with someone, ya prolly shouldn't do it. But in most bar situations, it's no biggie to grab a scrap of paper from the bartender, jot down some quick notes (I've developed my own little shorthand that no one else can make sense of, and sometimes, even I can't the next day), and stuff it in my money clip. YMMV.

If I'm drinking at home, I'll certainly do a review as I'm usually already on the computer. But if I'm out somewhere, I don't usually take notes or anything, except if it's really awesome, and then I'll take down some review notes on my phone. Usually I just give a rating to beers I had while out.

Yes, I read your one single review and I must agree that in your case it would be better to follow your heart in this matter.

Most of the beers I drink I review... I have also developed my own shorthand so I can quickly take notes when I am out and about without missing out on the conversation/people.

While I possess the ability to do a detailed review, I lack the ambition as way too many reviews come across as smutty and narcissistic. I just use the had function and reduce my reviews to: meh, alright, good, damn good, friggin' awesome and use the numbers accordingly. Beer reviews are staring to wreak of that of a wine elitist.

There have only been about a dozen beers I've had in the past 3-4 years that haven't been reviewed - they were either early in my craft beer career, or they presented themselves when I didn't really feel it was the right situation for me to really evaluate the beer.
Beyond that, I review all my beer.

I do when I drink a full pour, recently started using the hads as I have gone to more tastings lately. Don't think it is fair to write a review on a two or four ounce pour, but I can gain enough of an idea for an overall impression. At the very least, I take notes for later review. I don't find it impacts my enjoyment of the beverage one way or the other. Doesn't impact the social side...almost never drink when we go out, and usually something I know already if I do.

I appreciate the effort many reviewers put into their opinions, and while I have made a similar effort (at least as far as similar hand motions), I just don't feel I have a strong enough vocabulary on beer notes to contribute much more than something like, "really interesting beer, not the usual for the style or the best one I have had yet of the style". I rarely review something negatively, and so my reviews are about 1 out of every 40 new beers (to me) or less. I suppose one day I will go nutz and hit the "had" button for a few hours....

Call me obsessed but I must have reviewed 99% of the beers I drank. No re-reviews and may have skipped some in the beginning of my quest but I find it a great way to (try) keeping track.

Plus every 100 review I try and buy a special beer as a review milestone.
