I do those for me & my benefit, not yours. I appreciate other inputs as I don't have an infinite supply of beer money. I for one am pissed as I am just now getting to my first pint...

I don't do any reviews. I have a buddy that reviews everything, and I am convinced he has a following of people that go out of their way to read his reviews. I know I appreciate the reviews that you all do for this website.

I've learned which beers to really hunt for as well as which to steer clear of by reading reviews here. Real reviews by real people

While I appreciate the effort folks make to write reviews, and I do read some, I don't review either. I just would rather enjoy my beer. At the same token I don't really tick off hads either.

I have reviewed about every beer I have come across, even nasty stuff like Super Brew 15!

Mainly because I like to give an opinion about whether is any good or not.

Something like Consumer Reports for beer.

World class rating and been reviewed 1000 times is probably a great beer.

Super Brew 15? You might have to have a tongue transplant after tasting.

Sometimes with a hottie on each side, it's impossible for Raul to review them all!

Are you referring to the hotties in your avatar picture? :astonished:

Anyway... I only feel it necessary to put up a review if there's none present, which happened to me only once. I had the privilege of being the first to post Ragin' Bull by Bolero Snort. This account for my one and only full beer review.

Whoever reviews every single beer they drink has entirely too much time on their hands. I find that some reviews can be entertaining and informative, but the majority of reviews of similar styles sound nearly exactly alike. I have an Untappd account and feel that the rating of 1-5 stars is plenty for me to keep track of what's worth drinking.

"Tickers" will be tickers and "Haters" will be haters. :sunglasses: (To each their own, it's all good.)

I'm one of those dicks who quick rates everything when I look at all my receipts from the last week or two. I've never written a beer review because its just my opinion which won't sway you, I promise....our tastes may be totally different and I accept that. Lets face it....unless I am posting a topless picture of me drinking said beer no one cares what I think. We try new beers/styles/brewers because we want to...not because some adorable little drinker from Ohio gave it a 4.5.

Love the passion in your post! LOL! Eliminate the "topless" and "adorable little drinker" and what's left is, "Yes" we do care what you think because whether you write a full blown review or click on the "Had", it all counts and affects the overall score of a beer and especially for future prospects who have never tried that particular one before. You have (200) reviews to your credit, you obviously care enough about beer. For what it's worth, when I'm deciding on a beer I've never had, I read several reviews before pulling the trigger. Your opinion doesn't count? Don't sell your experience short.

I politely disagree. Because 400 "adorable little drinkers" gave a beer a rating above 4.0, it makes me want to seek that beer out even more - just like if those same little adorable rascals ranked a beer 2.38, it wouldn't make me want to drink it.

Not that I only drink highly rated beers, but the rating system is a useful tool to seek good beers or stay away from poor ones - if one feels so inclined to do so.

I can understand this viewpoint given that you're on the outside looking in. The truth is, I review beer for myself. If I could hide my reviews from the public, I would. I have a terrible memory so I like having a log of tasting notes from everything I've had. That way I can make informed decisions around future purchases. That's all. I don't care if anyone ever looks at a single review I have. It's all basically an internal scoring system. In fact, that's what I used to do, just keep a spreadsheet of scores and notes for my own use. This site is just much more convenient and can be accessed anywhere.

I also find it interesting to compare my scores versus the consensus. And my notes to other people's notes. And my own notes from the past to present day notes (boy, has my palate changed over the years). And my notes on aged versus fresh brews....etc.

I have a feeling there are lots of people like me out there, versus the people you are describing.

Nicely said. The only thing I would add is that reflection and recording help to sharpen my memory for the qualities of the beer even when I don't have access to the notes and they help to improve my ability to enjoy the flavors in future pints.

No, but I log every beer that I drink. And I am trying to log what I drank before I started logging them.

I attend a beer tasting every week that features 7 or 8 beers. If I happen to like one, I'll buy it, take it home, and review it. Between that and the random ``I've gotta try that'' stuff that I come across or acquire via trades, I probably write full reviews of 2 new beers per week on average.

While writing full reviews of beers is a personal choice and you can certainly enjoy drinking beer without thinking about it, I do feel that writing full reviews enhances both your enjoyment and understanding of beer. It forces you to compare and contrast different beers and to articulate sensations of taste and smell that are often difficult to put into words. When I do this, I tend to notice little things about different beers that I might otherwise miss. I also tend to remember those characteristics that I like and look for them in other beers that I try.

My palette isn't refined enough to give a legitimate review on a beer. I just cannot describe the slight nuances between beers. As a result I just use the "Hads" as a way of keeping track of what I've had and what I liked (or disliked).
