So, do you sanitize it before you assemble in the pot? Of do you rely of the heat from the boil to kill off any unwanted organisms?

Anyone who has ever accidentally touched it during the boil, myself included, does not sanitize it separately

I might run some strong starsan solution through it the first time just to get any oil/manufacturing goo off of it, but probably not necessary.

If this is your first time using a connection, you might want to test with water before spending your time and money on wort. Boil the water and check for leaks.

Are there heat resistant hoses that you use for this? I still haven't upgraded to a valve on my kettle.

No, just soak valve, gasket, nut in starsan, then Assemble. I also have a few wrenches I keep separate for beer work. Slovak them as well.

There are. The ones I have can withstand boiling temps. I believe they were $2.30/ft if memory serves

I recirculate boiling wort with the pump to sanitize every thing in the loop.

This is exactly what I am doing this morning.

This is what I plan to do on brew days.

There are heat resistant vinyl hose that is expensive. You could probably use silicone as well. I'm not sure on the price.

Did this yesterday to bet my boil off rate. You wouldn't believe how long it takes me to get 6 gallon to boil on my electric stove.

I would happily do this if you would donate a pump to my setup :grinning:

Maybe divide your wort up into 2 kettles on separate burners

Na, I only have 1 large burner on my stove. I had a similar problem with my canning pot and 4 gallons. It took forever to get to a boil, and the boil was not very vigorous. It was enough, but barely. Same thing as yesterday with my 6 gallon test. Took almost 2 hrs to get to a boil. A propane burner will probably be my next upgrade. I've been eyeballing that sq 14. But, Renfest season is almost upon us. and... well... renfest. priorities. Renfest wins.

I starsan my valve because it's the easiest way to starsan my plate chiller and tubing.

I don't sanitize my ball valve. I clean my brew kettle and ball valve after I brew. Then I rinse with water on brew day, but don't sanitize. Doesn't sitting on a flame for 60+ minutes kill all the bad bugs? Same principle with my wort chiller. 15 minutes in boiling wort kills everything.

I don't sanitize mine on my brew kettle... After I am done with it I clean the inside of the kettle and when I rinse, let hot clean water flush out the valve. Usually it starts brownish but quickly goes clear and once it runs a bit, close that valve and all done.
