Who the hell cares who buys it? If it's gone when I get there so what? I missed it. Better luck next time. It all gets sold, so why do you care who buys it? I guarantee you even limiting bottles there are a LOT of people who miss it. I usually miss it. But If I am lucky enough to be there, and I show up to purchase a six….and you stand there like the soup **** telling me I'm not good enough to buy a six pack that is SOLD in sixes and is AVAILABLE to be purchased. Not to even mention the ten years and tens of THOUSANDS of dalliers I've spent at your store….

If I can't drink a gallon of it, I'm not interested.

It's fine with me if shop owners want to impose limits, as long as they STOP BREAKING UP MULTI-PACKS FROM THE BREWERY. If the brewery sold it packaged as a 4-pack, then sell it as a 4-pack -- don't split it into four single bottles to rake in maximum cash, justifying your action as being taken out of concern for customers. :stuck_out_tongue:

He seems to think he's the only consumer whose opinion matters - it's not a surprising attitude, but it is unfortunate.

I think that for things like KBS etc, they should package cases without the 4/6 pack holders. Seems these pieces of cardboard are a major upset point for a lot of people.

STORE : Yes can I help you?

BUYER : I'd like to buy some of that beer on the shelf.

S: Yes, I can sell it to you. 1.97.

    B: 2 dollars for a six?

    S: 2 dollars for a beer sir.

B: wait. You sell beer right?

    S: yes.

B: that six pack is for sale right?

    S: yes.

B: I would like to buy that six of beer, how much is it?

    S: You are not allowed.

B: what is this candid camera? is there a camera back there?

S: No, I will sell you 1 12 ounce beer. Would you like to buy it?

B: is this for real? is this a seinfeld sketch?

    wait, it gets more weird….

S: It's an extremely special beer sir.

B: I see, so you have the power to brake it into singles because of it's "rarity".

    S: Yes.

    B: O.K…. That's your right as a seller, I understand. I'll buy 6 bottles of X beer please.

S: You're not allowed sir. You are only allowed to buy 1 bottle.

B: So you are going to sell all six bottles, that are for sale, and originally sold as a six pack…supposed to be bought as a six pack…but you refuse to sell it to me.

S: Do you want a beer or not?

B: I think I just walked into bizarro land. I'll take my business elsewhere thanks.

Guy in line next: I can't wait to buy one 12 ounce bottle of that super cool beer. Then I can say I got it! and I feel lucky to do so! That guy doesn't deserve a beer this cool anyway.

    good grief.

STORE : Yes can I help you?

BUYER : I'd like to buy some of that (insert name of rare beer) beer that was released today.

    S: We're sold out.

B: How? You posted online that you'd be selling your one allotted case @ 8am today, when you opened. I waited outside since 6.30am with everyone else (points to the 22 people behind him/her), and I was second in line.

S: You're right, but I sold the whole case to the person in front of you.

B: But I spend $X here a month and am a valued customer. Wah wah wah. I'm never going to shop here again. Wah wah wah.

OTHER BUYERS IN LINE: Wah wah wah. Same sentiments as that guy. Wah wah wah.

How does the store address this alternative situation? Or is everyone else going to be as cool as you claim to be about missing out?

If you want to limit the amount sixes…whatever. Braking sixes is the problem here…either way it's all going to be sold. No one is going to get what they want. If it's me…I set the standard from the beginning. First come, first served. Just like a bar.

You know what else? Don't announce it. Put it on the shelves like it's supposed to be. The regulars will be the first to see it. First come, first served…problem solved.

I agree - you slow down too quickly and some of those sixers are going to spill

The regulars won't be though. The truck chasers and people who have no jobs but know delivery dates and average delivery times will be the ones who get it. Then they will also as much as possible and trade and/or the majority of it.

Same problem though. What if one person comes and buys the case. Maybe in Ohio things can and do work a different way. Trust me - that wouldn't work in NYC.

Even with allocated bottles a lot of stuff sells out at most stores in NJ before I even get out of work. Not at all uncommon for something in stores here to arrive around 12-1pm and be sold out before 5.

It's simple problem made complicated. I just won't buy that beer anymore. I'll make my own. You guys have at it.

I think you said something along those lines about 25 posts ago.

Seems there is more to it from your perspective.

I can't get past the ridiculousness of the whole situation. I can't believe that other buyers don't find this situation equally insane. I think if buyers simply didn't put up with it, it would be better for them. Just stop buying it works, but only when everyone buys in. Stop chasing down and buying beers that are sold as single 12ouncers and the problem will stop.

I need to abandon thread at this point. I keep getting sucked in because I get so upset. I think some people are beginning to find enjoyment at that.

If we're talking about stores splitting up 4/6 packs purely to be able to charge more, then that's a separate issue.

My understanding was this thread was about whether people agreed/disagreed with stores selling individual bottles of "rare" beer (vs 4/6 packs or cases), to spread the wealth (i.e. with little or no profit incentive; purely to allow more people to try a sought after beer) - I am all in favour of this.

If the breweries don't want their 12-ouncers sold singly, why'd they put barcodes on them?

There seems to be a lot of blame placed on the retailer, yet comparatively little placed on the brewer. Is it the retailer's fault that there's a tiny amount of a high-demand product? Is it the retailer's fault that consumers get obsessed with a tiny amount of "prestige" products, especially in this day and age when we have bajillions of awesome beers everywhere?
