Overall across all beers, I'm probably close to the average (but of course some high and some low)

I tend to rate on the higher side, since most beers I have had I've really enjoyed (4.5+). A few I thought were kind of good but not great (less than 4.0, but greater than 3.0), but only one has been offensive to my palate (Duchesse De Bourgogne).

You have to be aware of what to expect to be ready for that one.

My Rdev is higher for 300 beers, even for 30 beers, and lower for 460 beers, so I skew lower than the average on average.

Almost always much higher. I'm 50 years old and remember well the days when the best beer you could get in 99% of the liquor stores and bars was maybe Heineken. Think about that for a minute. Damn near any craft beer, still to this day, shoots me to the moon.

Imperial IPAs are my sweet tooth. If it's an Imperial IPA north of 10% ABV, it just hits the spot. (Many bars are too timid to offer more than one at this level, so I'll stoop to rate a 9% or wimpy 8%.) 5% of the time, Imperial IPAs are way too boozy for me, and my grade is lower than the average. 95% of the time, however, especially if the ABV is well-hidden, my craving is sated and I rate above -- sometimes by double-digits. I used to include Belgian tripels and quads in my beermenus Alert list, but removed them, because Imperial IPAs just taste better to me, and there are 3,900 breweries in the USA I have yet to sample.

Surprised to find I have nearly the same amount of positive rdev as negative, but the most negative are skewed farther than the most positive. Much farther. So, not sure what to generalize by this, but there it is.

How on earth does this thread not have a poll?

I am generally a bit higher, but not a ton. A typically solid, above average though not spectacular beer (think: SN Torpedo or Two Hearted) gets a 4 from me since it is quite enjoyable and performs well in all 5 categories, just not special. So my ratings typically hover in the 3.75-4.25 range, with an excellent beer around 4.5 and truly special beers above that, and I do not shy away from 5s if I think a beer is just awesome.

Lower because it seems that every beer people drink is above average!

Oddly my BA ratings are higher than my Untappd ratings.

Higher, by more than I expected. Lately I've noticed that my reviews are usually close to average, so I suppose my palate and / or reviewing skills have improved.

62 above the average, 58 below the average, so pretty even overall.

I seem to Rate higher, all that i have had and love are 4.00 and up / 3.00 to 3.75 so so but still very Drinkable / ones that are 3.00 and under had it, but not wanting to go out and buy it aging . But That all being said, as time goes on with this journey your tastes do change some as of rating too!

I like to think I rate somewhat low compared to everyone else here - for starters, I actually consider a 3 "average" instead of "unfathomably terrible." :stuck_out_tongue:

    Of my 307 reviews/ratings:

    35 have plus rDev
    15 have 0.0% rDEV
    257 have minus rDev

So significant negative skew compared to average BA. For me a 3 rating means a decent beer but unexceptional. Happy to give 2.5 for a disappointing beer. Anything 4 or higher is very good. A recent visit to Cantillon added to the 4+ collection!

Most of my ratings are about 5% or so above the average. Of course some are a bit lower than the average ratings, and some quite higher %. I try to keep it fair on a basis of "good" and what I know of beer. I only give ratings less than 3 if I feel like it's a bad example of "good beer". When it comes to the top ratings I'm very peculiar about what I think should be 4, 4.25, 4.5, etc. It has to have real intense, balanced, and awesome flavors for me to give a beer a 4.5 or 4.75 taste rating. I have not given a 5 for any rating yet.

Most have a positive rDev, in the last year not many reviews I've had have been more than +/-10% rDev
