I love sour beers. I don't drink them too often though, because i can buy a 12 pack of something else for the price of some of the 750s.

I had my first sour yesterday, Cigar City Portmanteau. It will be my last.

I love sour beers. However, I would not want to drink them one after another every single day. I treat them as a luxury item.

Well, I think my rationale should have helped it make sense to you: "I feel like I am missing out, given the popularity with enthusiasts"

The most delicious on a summer day, my opinion.

This is the hardest of all beer styles to get accustomed to, and there are so many out there it's hard to start, but once your in woah baby. I gotto say I liked the style until I tried some aged drie and than I loved it. 3f to make makes the greatest sours out there.

Edit: I have an unfair advantage when I started with rr so close.

When I am in the mood for a sour, then yes I really love them. There are days when just knowing that a Cuvée Des Jacobins is in the fridge, I am content. There are days when staring at a shelf with Oud Tart has me contemplating the price tag and doing a brief risk-reward assessment. Same so with Love Child.

Then there are days when a big, chewy stew is just screaming for a stout. There are days when a fish taco demands a DIPA. And of course their are days when I just want a beer.

Sours are friggin' incredible. My taste for them kind of came out of the blue. A craft beer tap house where I live did a sour night last year for Valentine's Day. I actually struggled thru 3-4 of them and didn't plan to go back. But a week later, I absolutely craved them. There are certainly different levels as well . . . and as other people have said, they do get expensive. That's my issue right now . . . I only want to drink Destihl Saint Dekkera Sours and Cantillion Sours, which are not cheap. But worth every penny. Try a Saint Dekkera Poire (sour pear) as a gateway beer to the world of sours. I've converted many people with that one.

My sour story, RR Supplication back patio sippin on a hot summer night 4 years ago. My wife and i agree that is was the weirdest beer both of us had every had, she swears it tastes like a funky wine cooler. I finish both glasses and mentally tell myself i don't understand the style and swear i will never spend that amount of money on a beer again. About 2 weeks later i am thinking about that weird ass cherry beer and kinda want to try it again, next time i love it and cant get enough, hooked to everything that is funky & sour. Now i drink 3 or 4 a week and obsess about trying new ones.
