Lol at everyone that said yes. Maybe other beer advocates are sharing them with you but for as few "white whales" or even "whales" that there are, we can't all be drinking them or they wouldn't be that rare or special.

I can't even think of the rarest beer I have had. Maybe Vanilla Rye or Wild Peach? And in reality those aren't that hard to obtain in the grand scheme of things. Beers like that are things I get to drink a few times a year, not with an regularity, and that is okay.

A lot of them are rare and special because everyone drank them...

Yup, I drink them when I am actually able to get them. Usually share them with a friend or 2.

Of course I drink the "whales" although I normally wait for a special occasion/celebration, to let the beer age depending on what it is, to have for a bottle share, or if it just strikes my fancy to have one.

Oh and if I come across one at a bar, it is definitely getting drunk by myself or shared if I am with company who would be interested in having it too.

I drink them! They will always make more and my stance is how do you know if it's your thing if you don't drink? Meaning you gotta try it instead of holding onto so in case you absolutely love it you know what to track down?
Now I must confess I do have a assassin and SR-71 but I will drink! Haha....just waiting for the right time to crack.

I trade half my cellar for them, drainpour them, drill holes in the top of the spent bottle and wear my "scalp belt" to every local beer festival to show off how badass I am. Then when people ask me about the bottles, I'm all "yeah, not worth the hype...."

Absolutely! If I get 2 bottles I'll cellar the second one. Only time I have cellared a wale is when it was recommended to me.

What's the point in driving yourself crazy getting a crazy beer if you won't drink it.

Agreed with a lot that has been said here already........I will definitely drink it.....I try to save it though so I can share with others. But like somebody else said....if its the only bottle I have, and I have never tasted it, I'm definitely drinking it - not trading it.

I wouldn't go super far out of my way just to get a rare beer (or "whale" if you have to use the word), but if I did somehow end up with one in my fridge (or if I stumbled across something really hard to find on draft somewhere), it seems like it would be somewhat silly not to drink it. That's kind of the whole point of a beer, after all. XD

Drink the shit out of them duh! Unless you are trading for a Sasquatch then why not! Whale of any kind goes down hard.

I try not to hold onto good beers for a long time for no reason. I have more than enough beers at any time that I dont need to specifically hold onto any for special occasions.

But I also try not to drink expensive beers too fast. Its more fun to spread out good beers that took a lot of time and effort to buy or trade over a couple weeks rather than one weekend.

I'd never trade for something I didn't plan to drink. Trading for something, only to trade it for something else seems silly (unless you have a deal already in place on the chance you acquire something).

Drink up and share with others when you can, but as my father use to say sometimes you just have treat yourself other wise it just taxes and bills.
