To answer the question....I like growlers.

I almost never buy them as they are so over priced compared to cans/bottles.

    Enjoy

$3-$5..... Wow. Nothing under $12 for a 64oz here and that's for shelf beer that is same price or less for the six pack. I would buy 32 all day at your price

    Enjoy

I was talking about the glass, which DrumKid cost $10 to $15 for him. They won't fill it for $3 or $5 but like I said, you still get better bang for your buck ounce wise...

Growlers are a pain in the ass. I choose them only when that is the only choice available and I am going to share or consume it in one sitting. Some styles don't do well in growlers due to carbonation levels (think cask ale and nitro). And some places do a shitty job filling them. I saw one place fill theirs using a pitcher. With beer that has been sitting out for a while. Yuck. Growlers don't always seal well. I've bad one too many leaky growlers. Stale beer, unreliable sanitation, incompetent staff handling the pour, high prices, stupid rules and did I mention stale, flat beer. Growlers are a necessary evil at best. Give me chilled brewery fresh packaged beer to go or a draft at the bar over anything brought home in a growler any day.

Now crowlers and 32 oz glass swing top growlers are better ...IF they are purged with CO2 and filled properly. Those vessels seal better and are of a decent quantity for quick consumption.

Right, this is my thought. I buy them when there is not another option, but now some really small local guys have started hand bottling some of their beers, and it is really much better.

Locally we just passed a growler law allowing non-producers (liquor stores) to also sell growlers/crowlers. I tend to buy crowlers rather than packaged beer now. It's fresher, more likely to have been stored properly and a near equivalent value oz for oz. (At least here in the good life).

Crowlers/growlers are also a much more eco-friendly option in terms of saved packaging, transportation impact and reusable nature of glass/ss growlers.

Thank God in high heaven that I don't have your problems filling a Growler or Howler in Casper Wyoming.

Why would anyone get a growler? Way more cons than pros.

I like them if they're not a blatant ripoff. A lot of the time around here I'd be losing a significant amount of money going with a growler over a 6pk so it's a pretty easy choice. Once in awhile I'll see a good deal, but otherwise I don't even consider the format an option.

Generally I dislike growlers because they dont last long and go flat so soon, also very pricey for fills, they should be discounted more in my opinion. I do keep 3 grolwers in my truck for whenever I happen to be in the neighborhood of cellarmaker, SARA and fieldwork. Actually I only do Crowlers now if im at fieldwork.

I like growlers, most places seem have good deals of growlers, and it can give me a chance to enjoy draft only options at my pace. I do prefer 32 oz growler over 64 oz.

Glass here is $5 for 32 or 64. Filling it is another matter

I know people like growlers and don't get me wrong (I drink a lot of beer), but I do not want to be on a time frame to drink my beer in a certain amount of time befrore it is not fresh anymore.....

I think that's my main disagreement with growlers. I'm forced to drink on a timetable determined by the limits of the container.

I get a growler once in awhile. Usually don't want to drink that much of the same thing, in a short time (3 days, at most) .
But...... the local bottle shop has $12 growler fills on Friday. Their offerings , 5 at a time, sometimes with others on-deck, all would cost almost twice as much by the bottle. They always have 2 offerings from Singlecut, and one from Galaxy, a local brewer, and 2 that vary from week to week. My last one, Boulevard Tank 7, was soooo good, I was wishing for more.
I was tempted by Singlecut Heavy Boots of Lead and Galaxy PANIC! , but yeah, a full growler of RIS is a bit much.

Btw, they didn't charge for the growler itself, unless that was an oversight.

Here in Australia growlers are generally $20 for the growler than $20-75 for a fill,
they are good to get pint-able styles,
but if the beer is shit, you are left with a big drainpour
I gave neighbour a growler of pale ale from a fairly remote brew pub tourist trap type place, noticed its still being used as a doorstop, full still.
