havent had it since shepherd neame ruined it. and today i was going through the beer aisle and really fancied a couple of samuel adams bottles. i didnt buy any cos i know its now just watered down crap. i also know most people here have moved on/dont care probably but i was thinking maybe starting some kind of group to protest against shepherd neame lol

    would anyone support it?

Were they really any good before Shep's did what they generally do?
Can't say that I've ran into owt but the Boston lager over the years so I haven't really got a broad experience of SA's output.

I used to enjoy the occasional SA before SN got their hands on it. I spose im more pissed off that profit is being put before customer satisfaction. So i guess i just wanna make a point

I think it was last year I made a big BoE order & wanted to explore some other SA options
(before Shep took over UK Boston Lager) but all they had was the Summer Ale which was so so
but the Boston lager was better brewed & imported
and I bet something like old Fezziwig is tasty.

I'm all for shouting at Shep Neame lol

Yeah, I miss it (vaguely). I admit that it was never the greatest beer around and there's plenty of choice, but I didn't mind drinking one now and then if the price was right. Since the move to contract brewing by SN it's lost some depth - the malt a bit less rich and rounded; the hops less aromatic. In short, it's lost what I thought made it an American classic. Oh well - at least an increasing number of US brews are making their way over here instead.....

Incidently, I always thought it was odd that Sam Adams never sold any of their other beers over here (given that they are the largest 'craft' brewery in the States).

I've never been a fan of the original. It's a lager that tastes like ale, ie., a poor man's ale.

I have to confess I never though too much of it either. I mean it was ok, but seeing it on a supermarket shelf next to an SNPA was always a no-brainer for me.

SN is just one of those supposedly 'old school' British breweries who has gone 'full ******'. Right up there with Greene King and Wells (and Young's) among others. Those new to the whole craft beer thing have very little interest in them. And they, like others in this brewery category, are doing nothing meaningful/of interest to address the flight of interest to all things new and crafty. Its a shame.

Ah, Greene King are all right (at least in terms of the beer they produce). I'll happily have an Abbot or IPA.

Split decision for me here. Have no time for Abbot but their IPA does seem to have that 'je ne sais quoi' factor.

Heh - I'm the opposite. I find Abbot an acceptable brew if needs must but the IPA is watery and bland.....
