Does Beer Drinking Cause Hunger?

for sure. i try to eat something filling before having any beer, and resist the urge to eat anything when I have been drinking. that's where the extra pounds come from.

 

Yes. I think I do.

Part of it is from a desire to cleanse my palate for a second session. That is, I drink beer for 3-4 hours, eat a meal and drink a bunch of water, then go back to the beer -- I don't drink beer with food.

So I've sort of conditioned myself to want to eat food after a session. But I *am* hungry, which makes no sense -- some of these beer sessions involve 1,000 calories or more. Shouldn't all those beer calories fill me up?

I'm the complete opposite of most everyone here. I don't drink anything when I eat any meal. No water, milk, or beer. And when I drink beer I don't eat any food the rest of the night. I woke up In my hotel In Portland one night and had a calzone crammed in my hoodie pocket, not one single bite out of it. I asked my buddies and they said I bought all of us one. I guess I was refusing to eat til the morning. So even when I'm wasted I won't eat... Just buy!

Completely anecdotal, but I get hungry after I drink. I was just thinking about this very thing the other day.

 

You're lumping all pills together and as I understand it acetaminophen is the issue when combined with heavy drinking because of the way it affects the liver. That said, a beer or two 3-4 nights a week isn't considered heavy drinking by really any standard so I wouldn't worry if I was you. If I downed 8 a night then I'd probably switch pain meds.

 

I certainly feel full after a few beers, no need for food (unlike the cannibis)

 

When I am alone I can always seem to just drink and not eat much, but with my buddies we always seem to HAVE TO order some kind of giant take out order.

I too suffer from chronic beer munchies. I once at two supreme pizzas after a "session" at the bar. The first 12 slices were out of hunger. The other 4 were out of principal. There is a weird pride/shame feeling when I reminisce.

Yes, I get hungry after a drinking session. I get around it by either snacking on something small and healthy (i.e. baby carrots), or drink a lot of water which tends to make me bloat and feel full. Either way works for me.

 

It is important to keep in mind that Tylenol (acetaminophen) and aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid) are quite different drugs.

 

In high school yes, in your mid to late 30's, not so much....

 

Yes drinking beer makes me hungry, not during but after. I crave hot sauce. Pizza covered in hot sauce. Turkey bacon cheddar subs covered in hot sauce. Sourdough pretzels with mustard and hot sauce. For hangovers i take two buffalo chicken salads with a tall glass of water and i'm right as rain.
