Yeah, they sell out often, but it's usually the day before the next canning. Sundays are a bad day to try and get them, but they're back in stock on monday. Wednesday they sell out, but it's back in stock on thursday. This weekend was crazy with them selling out on Friday and being out of stock until the next Monday.

Im not really looking to call anyone out, its was just something I saw, obviously its not the norm. I've seen people ask for DL, Hunapu, BCS, CBS. Who knows maybe they were offering multiples for one of those.

Would a Michigan Local like 2 hearted or Shorts Huma get some? I would think no on the 2 hearted for the sole reason that's it has a fairly wide distro, though not in VT, the Shorts on the other hand Im really not sure. Im sure a growler of DRIPA should be able to scare some up. Maybe a couple bottles of some other kuhnhenns stuff would work too. Maybe just a darn good growler from some local brewery here.

I've traded heady's for two hearted as well as kuhnhenns (in the same trade, even) so I'd say yes, those beers would get some heady topper.

But you could still get HT this weekend in Burlington, you just gotta poke around , The cannery sells out faster than the retail outlets much of the time.

I wouldn't trade HT for 2hearted or shorts only because I've had them and prefer HT.
Stuff like Kuhnhenns or lesser distro'd breweries regulars that I haven't tried I'dl trade $4$ for HT.

That said, many people got a ton of Huna, BCS, DL, etc and are willing to trade it $4$ with HT, so people are going to toss those trades out there.

I've ways traded $4$ for HT but i've seen alot of HT FT's over the last year asking for stuff that seems out of line.

the problem is that HT sells out, and everyone wants to drink it.

it's not that it's "objectively worth more" than your locals, it's that people going to the trouble of grabbing a 4pack aren't usually going to bother trading it for "shelf locals" unless they're just trying to spread the heady topper love. as for people trying to trade HT for sought after brewery only 1-offs, they probably hustled to get the heady topper exactly to try to extract those other valuable beers. they're probably not going to come down on the asking price, but do you want to trade with people like that anyway*?

as production increases, this should even out, and it will be a lot easier to trade for.

    * notice, "people like that" aren't just "people who hoard beer so they can try to trade up / exploit". it's "people who hoard beer so they can trade up / exploit, and the best thing they can throw at the hot shot beers they're after is heady topper."

this is different than someone who just likes HT so much that they wouldn't trade it for similarly easy-to-get beers (me), because it's not that easy to get. and by "not that easy to get" all i mean is "i can't buy enough to sate my HT appetite." [that said, i'd throw it in as an extra for trading partners if cans didn't blow up in the summer. i don't get it regularly anyway though]

supply/demand-wise, the beer just kind of falls on a sweet spot that makes it not that tradeable unless it's for specialties like zombie dust or pliny--ie high demand, but regularly and regionally available beer.

I trade ALOT of Heady Topper. He is my 2 cents on the topic.

#1 A 4 pack of Heady costs $11.99 plus deposit at the brewery.
#2 It costs more to ship (4) 16oz. cans than it does to ship a $11.99 bomber.
#3 Heady Topper is a world class beer, so I expect a world class beer in return, if you have one at the same reasonable price I'll go $4$ if it's a beer that I like.
#4 It may be easy & cheap to get Heady Topper, but unless you make it worthwhile, no one will bother.
#5 In Vermont we have Alchemist, Lawson's, Hill Farmstead why would any of us need IPA's from elsewhwere.

1.) You're quoting a reasonable price.... whenever I ask someone how much HT is (when they got a case from the brewery) I'm always told "$16 a 4-pack" or something similar.... either you have a crazy deposit, or I've contacted some D-bags about HT

2.) If you're worried about the $2-3 difference, you're dealing with cheap bastards who give shitty extras.

3.) I'll trade world class beers (Headhunter for instance) for off-the-shelf mediocre beers if I want to try them.... A local/easy to obtain beer someone wants, is the same as any other one, but I definitely say if you want "world class beers" you can get them. I'm just curious though, if you want an "Average" beer to try, and happen to go to the brewery and grab a few four packs, do you say "I'll offer you some lower rated stuff I got at the store today but not HT" ?

4.) This is true with all "Locals for locals" trades, so I agree there.... trading a shelf-sixer for another is a costly way to drink beer!

5.) Variety is the spice of life.... but again, you don't have to try other things.... I personally like some "Strange" sometimes

It comes out to 77.something for a case, SO I'd say you've contacted some d-bags, unfortunately.

But it's a few bucks more at stores, right? Isn't a fourpack close to $15 at Hungar Mt coop?
Personally, if I was trading with someone that bought their heady at a store and paid closer to $90 for a case, I'd still do $4$ on that slightly inflated price.

Yeah, but J specifically said cases at the brewery. Cases elsewhere would be a little bit inflated, probably hovering around $90. Even at that price, Heady is great and would probably be worth trading for, as long as it's discussed and the person didn't ACTUALLY grab it at the brewery and then tell you they got it elsewhere

The funny part comes when it's time to actually ship 24x 16oz cans of a fresh DIPA in August...

This is ridiculous. Heady is canned twice a week, and these are limited bottle count beers. I still consider myself somewhat of a noob, but I would never try and ask for these limited stouts with a fresh, but also perishable IPA. I'm glad in my short time here I have been able to establish some great trading partners that don't bend you over backwards for a beer. That said, a buddy of mine just got back from VT and graciously gave me a decent amount of Heady. Sipping on one right now in fact...OP if you have trouble getting this done, BM me your address and I'll send you a can or two with some extras your way.
