A friend of mine is visiting Boston area (we live in WI) and she offered to bring me back a couple bottles of something good from Julios Liquor Store in Westborough. Being totally unfamiliar with their current beer selection or even what breweries they would have stuff from, does anyone have anything they’d recommend? I told her to look for Ghandi-Bot and Imperial Stout Trooper from New England Brewing but don’t know if those are even an option/available. I’m a big IPA and barrel aged something or another fan. I’d like to keep it under $10 or so a bottle if possible....

    Any suggestions?

NEBCO beers aren't in MA anymore, so sadly you won't find those.

New England Brewing only distributes to CT currently. IST will be a long shot anywhere as it usually sells out quickly and is released around December/January. Gandhi-Bot is hard to find in CT when it's sporadically released it's gone quick.

Follow Julio's Beer Shop on facebook: https://www.facebook.com/juliosbeershop

MA Brews: Jack's Abby, Pretty Things, Wormtown

Wachusett LARRY is good and easy to find and cheap, Clown Shoes makes great beer too and they are pretty much all hoppy.

Maine Beer Company has great beer too from Maine and Julio's gets them every now and then: MO, Lunch, Peeper, Zoe, etc.

Jack's Abby Hoponius Union is a good hoppy lager. It's not technically an IPA, but rather an IPL. It has some good hop character and you can get a 4 pack of 16.9 oz bottles for about 10 bucks.

    For IPA look for:
    Wormtown Be Hoppy
Ithaca Flower Power (occasionally in stock)
Pretty Things Meadowlark (not out yet, but coming soon)
Jack's Abby 2nd Anniversary DIPL (a Double India Pale Lager that's out right now)
The Maine Beer Company offerings are good though a little pricey.

First of all, this is my favorite threat title in a while. Julio's is the most popular store for beer in New England, so it's kind of like asking 'Anyone here drink beer?' on the main board. You really can't do better for selection.

I'd agree with the above suggestions - Jack's Abby (their 2nd Anniversary is particularly good) and Wormtown (check bottling dates) are very good local choices for hoppy IPAs. Pretty Things is more Bellgian styles (but terrific) until Meadowlark comes back out. It looks like Wisconsin gets Clown Shoes, but they're relasing some BA stuff like Very Angry Beast that might not make it out to your way.

Looking at SeekaBrew, you should also look at some of the barrel aged Allagash stuff, Boulevard's big bottles, and Ithaca's Flower Power, plus Maine as noted above.

I'd pick up the new exclusive Smuttynose Fashionably Old Ale, available only at Julio's.

Also check out offerings from Mystic, Idle hands and Night Shift. If they have Rye(an) Ale left form Smutty, I personally think that is an exceptional beer as well that is/was a Julio's exclusive.

    Don't forget Hopulence it's Wormtown's DIPA.

Plus I think Julio's is doing $8.99 Hoponius 4 packs.

Off topic sorry and not being a wise ass. But why does everyone still think NEBCO still distros to Mass. It's been over a year now they stopped right?

Also the name NEW ENGLAND Brewing Company might have to do with it. People not from here automatically assume it is available.....you know....in New England.

Again...I'm from WI...had no idea that they stopped or even if they did to begin with.
Tried looking on this site: http://www.seekabrew.com/distro/index.html
but apparently that is very outdated information. Sorry.

Has CT gone on some annexation spree lately? We see NEBCO in Buffalo and Rochester NY.

I thought Clown Shoes Porcine Unidragon was a nice barrel aged stout for a reasonable price.
