Well does it? This is my first one and a buddy told me he had the 2013 and that it wasn't very good. Said he was told after that it needs at least a year to age.

the only thing from paso robles that needs aging is the wine. drink your parabola and enjoy it already.

I'm not going to tell anybody what their personal preference is, but I just opened one of my 2014 Parabolas last night and was just as blown away as when I had my first ever (a 2013) fresh last year. As a matter of fact I find it hard to believe they upped the ABV by 1% without it being noticeable, to my palate at least ..

    One way to find out:
    Buy two
    Try one now
Try the other in a year
    Case closed

Exactly what I did. One's "going down" next week. The other is sentenced to the cellar for a year:wink:

I have a 2014, and plan on drinking it at an appropriate venture - preferably when I can share it with friends. Do I think it will be an even better beer with age? Probably, based on the style. Am I going to avoid drinking it fresh on that assumption? Hell no.

A little OT, I thought a year old 2013 Sucaba was a little hot, but the 2014, fresh, was a lot better. Even with the higher ABV. Maybe that balances it better, not sure

I think it's better with a year of age in it.

2013 Parabola - while good - was one of the harshest, hottest beers I've ever sampled. Aged a year, it smoothed out extremely nicely, but lost a little bit of complexity.

Your choice - it's more complex fresh, but less oppressively boozy with age.

You seriously don't need to age parabola. It's great out of the gate. Having a vertical and then some of it, I can say that it doesn't gain much of anything aged.

I can't think of another barrel aged stout that tastes better fresh. For my tastes. Thought 2013 was great fresh, 2014 is amazing right now!

    Parabola only requires drinking!!! :grinning:

I'm so excited for the 2014 vintage I don't think I'd be able to contain myself!

people always say stuff like this, but it never makes sense to me. how many beers are you going to drink between tonights Parabola and a Parabola you drink in 365 days? Hundreds? Over a thousand? And you think you're going to be able to accurately remember what the Parabola specifically tasted like last year to compare it to one you drink in a year? no way. a thousand different biases will come into play and your memory simply isn't that good.

even if you take notes, what you perceive 365 days ago is bound to be different from what you perceive today. your tastes change (perhaps without you knowing) so what you wrote last year may mean something different than if you wrote the same thing today.

I would say doing verticals is a much better way, but even then bottle variation and storage conditions come into play
