I would hope it would matter only in the fact that I would mention that I might expect better at that price. Being human I know it does.

I use the 'Overall' section of the rating system to reflect the price. If I get a great beer for cheap the 'Overall' score goes up.

Does not affect my number rating but will be noted in a review if I thought something was a good/poor value.

I can also see this going the other way than how the OP described whereas someone factor in the overall value of the beer, good value = a higher score vs poor value = a lower score. Still not how I would rate.

It does not effect my rating. I do my best to rate to style, regardless of cost. It does not stop me however, from praising or bitching about said beer pricing in the final thought or wrap up toward the end of my review.

Price does not affect the numerical rating but occasionally I will mention the price/quality calculus in the comment portion of the rating.

    yes

a great beer that's cheap = +0.25 points or more

a sucky beer that's expensive = -0.25 points or more

we're not drinking this stuff in a vacuum ... price matters

Same as ive just read i agree with....does not effect the beer but should be mentioned if worth a high price or a steal on a low price.

As much as I try to focus solely on what's in the glass, I'd be lying if I didn't acknowledge that factors like who made it, how much it cost, and what I've heard about the beer previously do influence my expectations. However much I paid, I try to keep in mind that I wanted it bad enough to pay that amount for the opportunity to taste it. Good or bad, I had the option to pass and felt it was worth it at the time, so I never feel "cheated," but it does affect my perception of the beer and thus the rating at least a little.

For all of you that have indicated that price has little or no effect on your rating, how do you know? Or do you just think it doesn't affect your rating?

Side note: I hope I used effect/affect correctly lest my post will not be considered serious.

It shouldn't, but it does for almost everyone I believe. There are studies out there such as this one which support the idea that people are affected by price in this way:
    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/05/05/expensive-food-taste_n_5267707.html

Unless you are doing blind tests without knowing the name or style or what anyone else thinks, then your ratings are influenced by all kinds of factors other than taste, for certain.

I would say it definitely does, but more so in a negative kind of way. If I pay 10+ dollars for a 12oz bottle I am expecting to be knocked out of the park. If the beer doesn't do that for me, I feel cheated.

You get what you pay for is a mantra that works 95% of the time; unfortunately, beer is not one of them. Price has ZERO impact for me.

It shouldn't but I can see people see the price and interpret that as expectations.

    not at all!

but that doesn't mean i won't expect more out of a pricier beer. if i rate each beer a 4.5 but one is $15 for 6 while the other is $11 for 6, they still have the same rating but i know which one i'll buy more often

I see ratings for Look, Smell, Taste, Feel and Overall.. Nope. Don't care about price.

But if you bought a beer that was particularly expensive, then don't you think you could potentially recall the price of it months, if not years later? At the very least, if you didn't recall the specific price, don't you think it's possible that you would at least recall that it was more expensive than most of the beers you bought around that time? I'm willing to bet you would remember. Perhaps I'd lose that bet.

Furthermore, I'm willing to bet (not for you in particular, but in general) that a beer with such a memorable price is the very type of beer that would bias a rating based on price.

I'd further bet that a beer with an atypical price not only produces a memory of the beer's price and produces a biased rating, but it also produces a desire within people to defend their biased rating against claims that it was biased on price (as they wish to protect the image they have developed of themselves and promoted: the ability to judge beers purely on their taste).

No, it's all about what is in the can/bottle/growler. But if that expensive beer is very poor that may make me upset.
