I read this forum daily, often while I'm away from home. The various threads have introduced me to so many new beers that have been great that I find myself going to my local bottle at least twice a week on my way home to see what's new. I never leave empty handed. The wife is tiring of the expenses incurred, especially since we have a built-in kegerator in our kitchen.

Anyone finding themselves making purchases they otherwise wouldn't, as a result of reading Beer Advocate?

    Yes.

Earlier this week I purchased O'dell IPA solely because of this forum. By the beard of zeus am I glad I did! It's the best IPA I ever had. Thank you beeradvocate.com forums.

Naturlich! But even crazier than that and even seeking out new brews everywhere i go, I've now spent ~$350 on homebrewing equipment... Thus proving the consumption is not where the expense (or fun) ends.

Absolutely! I would have never heard of Flower Power without the best East Coast IPA thread. That and 50 more examples just like it.

It sure does! Damn you all! :grinning:

All kidding aside, if I had not found this site, I would not be having all the fun I am having experimenting and trying the best beers the world has to offer.

Not greater consumption but greater diversity of choices.

Yep, I've gone from social drinker + 3-5 per week to 1-2 per night.

Yes! Most of what BAs drink are solid beers.

I would say it leads to better beer consumption.
You just have to make sure you don't get too far out of control  and stay within your means.
You also meet some really cool people too!

Pretty much this, though most of my new beer choices are just based on whatever new I see in the shops by me. A lot of the hyped beer on this site doesn't distribute to my area. That said, I know what to look for when I go out of state

Since discovering this site a number of years ago I actually drink less beer than before. However I drink much better beer than before.

I go to the store for a sixer of sessionable pilsner and I come home with a four-pack of DIPA.

    Double Dose!

    DirtWolf!

    How can this end?!

I don't make as many "mistakes" trying new beers. Beer budget has ballooned.

Yes. BA is a great tool for discovering new beer. For example trying pbr instead of coors when I'm short on cash. On the other end I've sought out amazing beer such as Pliny and FBS instead of going to my local stores and getting nothing but Belgian imports.

No doubt. Without this website, I wouldn't know about many of the beers that I've since tried.

Absofrickinlutely! New beers, new breweries . . . BA has expanded my horizons in the beer landscape. Way more quickly than I would have on my own. A road map or trip advisor, perhaps. Mentors and making friends on the forums. There's also that little thing called trading and sharing . . . I am trying more styles of better beers and loving every drop.
