That machine is probably used for glasses only, right? A home dishwasher is gonna have all kinds of extra goodies to mess up the glass.

Um? You been to all the pubs in the UK, have ya? :grinning:

I've done my best to get round them all , only about 45000 to go............
Machine washing of glasses is a legal requirement. The days of seeing the landlord polishing glasses with a cloth have long departed.

True, but there is a big difference between a commercial glass washer and a home dishwashing machine. Jet dry or other water spot reducers in detergent kill beer foam, so does food residue. Even commercial dishwashers aren't good for beer glassware for these reasons, bars should and usually do have a dedicated glass washer which uses a detergent formulated for glassware and finishes with a very hot rinse cycle. Glasses cleaned in a commercial glass washer are the most "beer clean" you can get, much better than those hand washed with the three sink method still common here in the U.S. However, at home a careful hand washing is going to work better than a machine unless you are willing to run it empty first to clean the machine and then run a glasses only wash and find a detergent that lacks any foam killing additives.

I would assume that pub glasswashers are dedicated to the purpose , they are often behind the bar and are in continual use.

Evey now and then, I wash my glasses with distilled white vinegar. I then rinse very thoroughly with hot water. Does a good job of cutting residue buildup. Air dry.

Thanks a bunch for all the good info. A few too many threads have a hypothetical twist to them. You know, the ones like, "What beer would you have instead of a cigarette when standing in front of a firing squad?" At least I'd hope that is hypothetical.
