I am visiting MPLS from CA and would love to pick up a growler or two, wondering if Town Hall would fill my Russian River growler, or if MN has laws like CA where can only fill your own growlers. Any info would be great.

    Thanks.

No, they prefill all growlers and can't exchange for any other than their own.

I still kick myself for not buying a growler to drink and bring home empty when I was in Santa Rosa last spring. It's a cool looking growler.

Does Town Hall do this? I think it is smart if they do. I've had some places allow me to trade in some growlers I no longer use for one of theirs and other places that have not.

Technically no they can fill any growler but many say they cannot. Barley John's will fill any growler you bring in as will Canal Park, a lot say they can't. Really it just needs to be sealed and have a sticker from where you bough it. The sticker must have the location filled and on it what's inside. The beweries say you have to use their bottles so you buy the bottles they spent time and money printing out...

The main reason for only filling Town Hall growlers is that they don't have bartenders wasting time cleaning out and refilling a growler that you brought in. You bring in an empty TH growler, they take it, they hand you a fresh sealed growler from the fridge.

This is likely a big reason for many of them. Not everyone washes and sanitizes their growlers like me (helps I like to fill them with homebrew :stuck_out_tongue: ) but a lot of folks claim it's in MN Law they can't and that's not true.

If they don't have stickers that identify everything to attach to the growler, then it is MN law preventing it.
