I'm lucky that my local spot in Brooklyn is cool with us bringing Oliver (see pic) to hang out with us. He minds his own business, likes a good pet from other people in the bar and just loves being around. I wouldn't want to see a bar allow dogs off leash/let them run wild because not everyone is a dog lover, but if people want to bring their dog to the bar and are cool/respectful about it, what's the problem? Same with babies--I don't care if people bring their kids to the bar but keep them under control so it doesn't take away from other people's experience...

The places I've been to that allow dogs are just for the outdoor patio areas. I think its pretty cool myself but the dog does need to be kept on a leash and not wandering about. My mastiff and pit bull don't know how to act around people so I've never took my dogs to a bar. Right now it would be just too much of a hassle for me to deal with them around a bunch of people like that but I’m hoping eventually I can take them.

A dog's home is in the field, seeking prey to gnash wildly into for the approval if the handler. Man and beast in harmonious pursuit of one-ness with the way of nature. Disciplined enough to preserve the prize, savage enough to run the ground, jump the fences, dive headlong into a bloodlusted frenzy of feathers and teeth. The gunshot! The Whistle! The true friendship of two souls forged as one in the early dawn.

I'm against irresponsible owners bringing pets to breweries. I was at a brewery a few years shop, sitting on the outside patio with my girlfriend, and some lady let her dog take a dump on the floor by where we were sitting. So, she takes the dog over to a grassy area to finish it's business and we figure she'll be back to clean up the mess...but nope, apparently cleaning up after her dog was beyond the scope of her responsibility. So not only did the dog turd completely ruin any type of positive ambiance, but some poor brewery worker had to clean it up. I ended up running into her on the way to paying my check and I let her know that she was a pile of human trash.

So I am totally against irresponsible pet owners, parents, and men in sandals at breweries. Seriously, cover up your toes, no one wants to see that shit.

This is what it's more about from my perspective.
A business is free to conduct their business as they see fit, if they want a "dog friendly" place then, there you go. It's more on the dog's owner(s) to know whether or not it's a good idea to do so. You might have the friendliest dog in the universe, and you might think every single person thinks you have the cutest/coolest dog in the world, but truth be told, not everyone feels that way. If you know you have a hyper dog or a dog, especially off the leash, who will run around willy-nilly, maybe these aren't the best places to go. I knew where and when I could bring my dog certain places and I knew there were plenty of other times I couldn't or, more importantly, shouldn't bring her.

Best solution is to have some seating outside and let the people who bring dogs sit with them there. I really like dogs but I don't want to be in a bar filled with them.

My own bias, I own it. Just can't imagine relentless stubbed toes, folks stepping on feet, and a myriad of other open toe horrors that I'm certain would befall me. From what I've read, Jesus wore sandals and he did some pretty cool stuff. My bias likely stems from wearing boots for some sort of work related reason 95% of the time for the past, God, 26 years? Shit I'm getting old.....

The only dogs that should be allowed at a brewery are service dogs. That's it. Leave the pooch at home.

Tons of bars/breweries here in the Seattle area are dog and/or baby friendly. I was at a bar/beer shop a few weeks ago with my brother; there were maybe 40 people in there and we were literally the only people without a dog or a baby.

I enjoy crocs. There I said it. They allow airflow while leaving a great deal to the imagination - further, I don't care if I look ridiculous. I will say, though, that I typically only wear them around the house or for a quick run uptown (in my home municipality of 1,300 citizens).

Hikes and trials great places to take your dog. But if you want to enjoy a beer with your dog, stay home and drink!
