I actually thought their Pumpkin Ale was one of the better ones I have had. Not pumpkin pie"ish", but an earthy pumpkin taste

Indian Brown has ruined all other browns for me it is so good. Next poster will say, "I never liked Indian Brown."

Agreed that DFH takes a lot of swings at different hybrids so of course they'll be off for some consumers some or even all of the time. But, as others have already pointed out, they are an obvious favorite so it just comes down to personal taste. Doesn't it always?

Gotta say, I never really cared for 90 minute IPA much until the other day. I usually never buy beer at the grocery store, but my local Pathmark has a surprisingly nice selection of craft beer that I could not help but take a look at. I bought a 4 pack of 90 minute IPA because I noticed it was bottled only 2 days prior, which you never see. When I drank this beer I was blown away at how good it was, fantastic!

If you 'don't get why their (it's they're, btw) even in the conversation of top tier breweries' why don't you look at the ratings of their beers, http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/10099. Not only do they have some highly rated beers, they are pretty easy to get.

They discontinued all of the big beers that required expensive malt bills and ingredients. This includes Fort along with Raison D'Extra. I would consider the World Wide to be the best beer they still make and think aprihop is still very solid. They just recently expanded their brewery and set it up to increase the volume of their money making beers. My friend asked them if D'extra would be brewed again and their response was "highly unlikely", and then the guide explained they can't "go out of their way to brew the harder to brew stuff". He then said they discontinued Pangaea because they had "one guy" in Antarctica that could get them water and when he moved they did not want to put any resources into finding another "guy".

In summary - The bean counters are in charge of DFH now.

60 Minute was my go to beer for a long time. Now I'm burnt out on it. But I think they make a lot of great beers.

The "Don't like it? Let's see you do better!" argument is really old hat and silly. If customers of a business aren't allowed to have an opinion on its products, who is?

I'm not bashing Dogfish Head or defending them. But citing the Beers of Fame is simply playing with numbers. I can do it too. For example, their highest ranking beer on the list, 90 minute, would not be considered a "world class" double IPA on Beeradvocate. If you look at the list of double IPAs, you have to dig nearly 250 beers deep to find 90 minute.

Citing that it is on the Beers of Fame simply means it's an easily accessible beer, that has been around for years, and now has almost 9000 reviews. If you take opinion completely out of it, and use ratings, then no, this is not a "great" beer.

Id take issue with this. 60, 75, 90 and 120 are all solid offerings. Burton Baton...Excellent. Bitches Brew...Excellent. Theobroma...Excellent. Chicory Stout..Excellent. No arguing that they have had some clunkers...but what I like about DFH is that despite having reached a certain level of success and production, they still put themselves out there...they still experiment...raise a glass to the mad scientists out there!!!

You'll want to learn a bit more about statistics before making this argument. The numbers are caculated in different ways for different purposes and to provide different types of information. The beers in the Beers of Fame are both available and highly rated in a way that is more reliable than the indvidual DIPA list. Things come and go off the DIPA list and it is much more easily influenced by the "taste of rare" and the fads of the moment and even simple homerism.

they do "miss" a bit, but I'd say they are all interesting enough to try once. There's nothing they make that's "session" beer, outside the 60 minute. I found the Ta'Henket outright revolting, while the Red & White is an occasional treat that I would highly recommend. If you can splurge, buy two bottles, have one right away, and cellar the 2nd for a year or two. The Namaste is a spectacular wit, has some lemongrass in there, thirst quenching stuff, though a bit out of season now, check for that again late spring next year.

Oh, and I forgot the Indian Brown, saw someone else mention it up a few posts. And if I recall, it wasnt nearly as hoppy as the description led me to believe, it was malty goodness. Solid brown, for sure.

The guy can't ask a serious question without you blowing your top? While I've tried nearly all their (bottled) brews by this point, and I would say they are very hit or miss. At their worst, their brews are just "different" and intriguing enough to try the next. Your tirade should be taken no more seriously than his "hate" post. He implied nowhere that he was a better businessman or brewer than anyone, let alone dogfish head.

Don't forget about festina peche, VERY session-able and probably my favorite american fruit beer.

I bought a pack of the 61 with anticipation, but after having one, the others are sitting on the shelf waiting for that "mood" to hit me again. I don't see that happening anytime soon. I much preferred the Noble Rot to this one.

Well, it only comes in the 4 pack, that I know of, and 4 of those would be more than enough for me. The berliner style isn't as sessionable to me, as say a bavarian wheat. That sourness wears its welcome out after a few for me.

Hopefully, at some point, you'll see the irony that your post adds as little to the conversation as you're accusing him of. He asked a simple question, why don't you try answering his question rather than giving yourself an aneurysm?
