I'm in Grand Rapids through Saturday, and am looking to pick up a few Dogfish Head beers. Specifically: 75 Minute Hellhound on My Ale Immort Ale Noble Rot Tweason'ale Portamarillo I managed, despite the absurd prices, to get Faithfull and Ta Henket from International Beverage. But that was about all they've had of interest. Pauly's, who I called, said they had no DFH of any sort, and that the DFH distributor serving Grand Rapids hadn't brought in stuff in quite some time, and that I should look elsewhere in West MI to find these beers. But he didn't give me many other clues. So, I'm wondering if anybody has some leads on the above. My strong preference would be for retailers closer to Grand Rapids, but certainly no more than 90 minutes outside of the city.
You will find none of that on the west side of the state, as our distributors have gotten zero from DFH in over a year.
Stores in Holland get a lot of DFH in. I picked up a bottle ot Noble Rot last week and I saw bottles of Tweason as well but passed.
Grand Rapids distributor of doghead is not good at all. Its really is to bad DFH cant switch to another company. Martha's Vineyard downtown, always seem to have a couple options, but i have not been in for a couple weeks?
Art of the Table seems to have some DFH every time I go in there. Also, I found some 120 minute about 2 weeks ago in Holland. I can't remember the store but it was right on 31 on the west side of the road. There was a habitat for humanity store right next door.
I sent the OP a direct message on my very basic understanding of DFH in Michigan. Here is my understanding of the current distribution (feel free to correct where I go astray): The rights to DFH in Kalamazoo and Kent (and a few other counties) are held by Paw-Paw Wine Distributors. DFH attempted to pull out of Michigan last year when they pulled from Indiana, Wisconsin, and others. This was around the same time as Imperial merged/bought two east side metro Detroit distributors. Somehow because of this merger, DFH couldn't pull beer from this new merged group without some penalty (supposedly). Instead, DFH just doesn't send much (or any) beer to Paw-Paw for distribution in Kalamazoo/Kent. So, the lakeshore cities (Holland/Muskegon/Grand Haven), east to Lansing, and everywhere else do get DFH, but Kzoo/GR/Battle Creek do not. Disclaimer: This is my understanding of the situation as pieced together from various conversations, and may not be completely factual! Feel free to add or correct.
That about sums it up. I just didnt want to single out Paw-Paw, but Grand Rapids lack DHF would not be a problem if Imperial had the rights. Heres to hoping...
The irionic thing is that all the DFH beer for the state of Michigan is stored in Kalamazoo at the Imperial warehouse (allegedly)! I wouldn't typically defend Paw-Paw, but I don't think they are entirely to blame for this situation (this time). I just import any DFH I need from Saginaw when I visit family. They seem to have plenty up there.
Just stop off in Orland Park,IL off I80. It's right before you go into Indiana. They have a fair amount of stuff.
Every corner store in chicago has all of them ,60,75,90,120, wws, etcc.... If anybody wants any let me know and I wipl send them to u
