Has anyone bought/tried this ? How do you use it? Is it worth the $20? Thanks, Steve

I have one. You basically fill it with whatever base beer you want to play with.. Then you fill in other ingredients you want to use to flavor the base.. Then you strain it out into your glass so the ingredients stay in the Randall. I used Double Trouble once and added jalapeños.

I thought about it and then just bought a little french press coffee thing.

It seems to work just fine, and I got it for $8. Also has the added benefit of making coffee... I will need the coffee the next day...

As far as the price goes.. Not sure I would spend $20 on it though

Save money buy a french press for 10 bucks and it works so much better IMO. I have made a couple BCBS variants but my favorite was the Supplication and raspberries!

Oh man, and coconut in an imperial stout! I am drinking a slightly underwhelming imperial stout right now, so I am going to break it out and toast some coconut flakes...

    Beer-****-tastic!

I bought one and its OK but my French press coffee maker works better - I can get a whole ounce in the French press as opposed to about a quarter ounce in the $20 Randall Jr. The French press costs about the same and you can make coffee too. A large French press can handle an ounce of hops and 16 - 20 oz of beer and the result is awesome. The Randall can handle about 8 oz of beer and about 1/4 oz of hops which is really not enough to blow your sox off.

Pretty cool.. Let the consumer be a little creative. My creativity goes out the window with one drink though.

Weird... after a few drinks my creativity goes through the roof! Not sure if the results are any good, but they are certainly 'creative'

I got one from my fiancé for Christmas. She gave me a bunch of ingredients, beers, and recipes (it was a cool gift). I've successfully done a cocoa nibs lambic (nice but with the low alcohol I should have let it sit longer), some nice vanilla bean stouts (this is wonderful, especially in BA stouts), and added hops to some OLD Sierra Nevada pale ale (this was pretty good).

I need to get some maple syrup to add with the vanilla beans. I used to use a french press and would add a little sugar with the beans. I find the sweetness helps the vanilla come through. If I was you, I'd use a cheap french press but the next time Dogfish Head does a free shipping promo, I'd pull the trigger. It is pretty cool to use!

There are a few threads on here. A quick search will find some of them.

Coffee, vanilla beans, bourbon soaked oak chips and Coconut are common ones, but frankly you can experiment and go wild. I usually try new things with a simple inexpensive but really solid imperial stout or IPA (smuttynose Impy Stout is a go to) so I am not wasting expensive beers on experiments.
My to do list for the spring is to check out the new home brew store near my house. They have about 20 varieties of whole cone hops in stock and sell them by the ounce. I am dying to get a case of fresh SNPA and put all the different varieties of hops through half ounce at a time.... Mmmmmm drunken me....

I once added coffee, vanilla extract, and sugar, to a BCBS. That turned out great but BCBS is hard to come by here, so with my Randall I have twice used Anderson Valley's Wild Turkey because I can get it VERY easily here. It has a lower abv so it takes a little longer to absorb the flavors. I fill the Randall and seal it, then plug the rest that is still in the bottle, to do a side by side.
