Fox to develop a prime-time sitcom about Sam Calagione and family (his wife and two kids). It's been bought by Fox being created by his friend Ken Marino (The State) and is in the very early stages of development.

Hate to be a cynic but I doubt this lasts more than one season. Good luck, Sammy. I'll drink a different DFH offering whilst watching each episode. If I like the show of course :grimacing:

The first DFH show was good because it was based around beer and the culture. I cannot see this lasting more than 1 season if it based around their lives.

    Meh...
Show about the brewery, I'm all for that.
I couldn't care less about his personal life....for some reason I care about Walter White's though.

Maybe I am being skeptical/pessimistic, but I doubt that this show even gets a pilot, yet alone picked up for a season...interesting concept, but I am not sure whether Sam's and DFH's story has enough cultural impact to sustain the relevance needed for a network TV-sitcom.

If it succeeds, it'll have as much to do with beer as "Everybody Loves Raymond" has to do with newspapers.
"Not that there's anything wrong with that."

Question, have the people who think this a bad idea ever read the book "Brewing Up a Business"?

If you haven't then you are only guessing what the show is about.

why are you all cheering? Don't tv shows destroy people's live more often than not?

If you don't like the beer, the brewery, or Sam for that matter then why bother chiming in? Give it a shot or don't. So many negative nellies when something good is happening for one of our own.

Sounds like this is a long time friend of Sam's. This is seems like a good idea to me. Ken Marino is hilarious and The State was awesome. I never watched Party Down but I still like him. I think it could be cool. No one thought a sitcom based on Tim Allen would turn out as well as it did. This could have potential. If you ever listen to Sam talk or have read the book, he has a great story to tell. Ken would throw some good comedy on it.

You guys seem to have forgotten every sit-com you've ever seen. I mean, how much of King of Queens revolved around him being a UPS driver? Sure you saw the truck and the uniform and occasionally en episode about the antics at the workplace, but it's a sit-com about A guy, the dumb shit that guy gets into, the zany characters in his life and the lesson learned at the end of the day. How about a show about paper salesmen? Sounds horrible right?

true true. but Sam seems like a great guy and I could see some shrewd hollywood douches taking advantage and fucking him over or making up/ misrepresenting shit or kicking him out of the writing process etc.

The guy doing it is hilarious, it's a close friend of Sam's. He is exactly the right person I would want behind if it were my story. Plus as the article said, this guy helped Sam paint the brewpub when it first opened. I am sure there is a good friendship there and a good understanding of the humble beginnings.

Can't wait for Sam to be portrayed as a grinning bumblecluck with a ridiculously hot, shrill wife and a bunch of smarmy kids running around in a brewery...
I don't see this ending well for Sam and his family in particular, or DFH in general. Ah well, money über alles, I suppose.
