Yeah for sure. Sometimes I dont think people realize just how dangerous a brewery can be!

Used to use nitric acid for etching zinc. That stuff's no joke. Any idea what they used it for at the brewery?

To clean out beerstone I think. (scale that forms in tanks)

Thanks for the kind words of concern here. Thankfully nobody was hurt and we evacuated quickly. Props to our safety officer George and brewmaster Tim for their great leadership today. Sorry to anyone who was signed up for tours this afternoon or drove to our tasting room. Back to business/tours/food truck as usual tomorrow. Yes we do use this leaning agent to remove beer stone from our tanks.

FWIW- he used to post more before the changeover of the forums- so that's only three since then, not 2004. Still, I think his presence is missed and would like to see more, as long as he has the time.

A cool story for Sam's next book nipped in the bud (a la the exploding fermenter in Brewing up a Business). Boring is good...

That's better than dumping an entire batch of 120!

I prefer citric acid over nitric acid in my beer.

Does anyone know how this'll effect the brewing schedule? There are some releases I've been looking forward to...

In addition to removing beer stone, it's used to passivate tanks and cleaning the brewing system.
