Dogs banned from all Yorkshire Wetherspoons from next week (Yorkshire Post)

Living in a beer-centered community that seems to allow dogs in or outside of every venue, this supposed ban has me wondering a few things.
Will they actually enforce it? Article says that there has technically been a ban in place since 1979.
Will this affect visitation do you suppose?
Are Weatherspoons not aware that children can be unpredictable at best, more so than dogs?
Are they legally allowed to ask for documentation to explain the dog's purpose? If I'm not mistaken, here in the states an establishment may only ask if the dog has a purpose, and not what that purpose might be.

I'll be honest, I don't really like dogs and I don't want them inside a pub with me. Tied up outside is ok if they are out of the way. Guide dogs should of course be allowed inside. I've read elsewhere that craft brewpubs in the US are full of dogs. That doesn't happen in the UK. You might see more in countryside pubs where people have been for a walk and are nipping in for a pint. Wetherspoons are a chain pub that are based in towns / cities. The main reason people go to Wetherspoons is because it's cheap, so I can't see this putting a dent in their profits. Regarding your point on children being unpredictable - thats true, but the fact is that their parents are paying money for the kid's meals and pop. Dog owners aren't spending extra money in the pub on their dog.
