Anyone else allow their dogs to taste a little beer? My dogs know when it is around 7 pm (my normal head to the beer fridge time) and get excited for their little splash in the pan taste.

I have 2 dogs, one doesn’t care for beer but the other one loves the stuff. The one who loves it will come running as soon as I crack a can open. He can even differentiate between the sound of a soda can and a beer can. He still can’t learn the command for sit though, so I guess his genius is sporadic.

I have 3, 2 boxers and a Boston Terrier. They get their 'pour' in order of largest to smallest.

Vets (and the web) will be quick to tell you that dogs can't metabolize alcohol, and it can be dangerous to them and can kill them, no matter how much they like it.

I find this topic shockingly abhorrent. I can’t think of anything more irresponsible than letting my dog drink beer as the surgeon general’s warning clearly states consumption of alcoholic beverages impairs his ability to drive my car.

When I’m outside with my Lab, he will try and knock over my beer so he can lick it up. He loves it, but I never give it to him on purpose.

I’m less concerned about my dog driving to work, than I am with him operating heavy machinery once he gets there.

We have a portable breathalyzer for our dogs before they can drive and/or operate heavy machinery. the two females have been spayed so not concerned with them drinking while pregnant.

I feel the need to make it clear, my dogs only get a small splash, probably less than a tablespoon.

A little? There wasn’t a lake there before you started pouring.

    ...two words: beer finger...

...neither Rocket the Wonder Dog (RIP) nor Oscar (aka 'Thundering Rodent') drink beer per se, but they both love(d) a finger dipped in beer (AAL, chili beer, smoked porter, saison, et al)...

My dogs love sticking their nose in my beer and smelling it. I don’t let them drink it nor do I think they want too anyways. They sniff it then disregard it.

Our cat will sniff and disregard, but the dogs go crazy right around 7 pm.

Years ago, when I had my beloved lab mix Max (R.I.P.), I picked up a case of Grain Belt during a day trip to Minnesota. One night, I opened a bottle and poured a glass for myself. I then put a little in Max's dish, stuck the empty back in the case, and went to watch TV. A few minutes later I heard bottles clinking together. Max had finished his, then started hunting through the case of empties looking for more. He also enjoyed a sip of Sam Adams Boston Lager now and then.

Kaito enjoys a taste once in a while. Here he is drinking Barkpocket, a dog "beer" from Backpocket Brewing, Coralville, IA. Made with bone broth and herbs.

    Mona RIP loved IPAs
Her favorite was Enjoy By and Soaring Dragon from Stone. Bitch also enjoyed Lagunitas IPA

We'd regularly tak3 her to the Stone Pasadena tap room and she was a fan of Double and Triple IPAs as well. We always gave her some licks

Ummm, no. I love my pups and try to avoid giving them stuff that's poison for them.

Although I had a buddy in college who let his dog drink beer all the time. He seemed fine at the time. But then he's probably dead now. But that was 25+ years ago.

Alcohol is also poison to us. Same same.

Not the same. Aside from the fact that hops are poisonous for dogs, it's my understanding that dogs can't metabolize alcohol like humans so even small amounts can lead to alcohol poisoning. There's probably a veterinarian on here who can fact check me.
