I'm hopefully doing an ip: trade shirts an was lookin for input on giving extras. I always give some when I ship but this is my first ip and don't know if extras are expected or just an extra bonus?

If they aren't local, throw in a few local cans/bottles. If they are local, maybe throw in a favorite cider or something non-local that you have extras of.

    Extras are always nice, regardless.

Even more important when you are face to face. Crush them and make a new friend.

so trade went off with out a hitch, I didn't get to many responses so I went with my better judgement, I donated a 6pk and a bomber of two different locals that I know don't distribute to his state

My thought here is that sometimes when you're the one traveling its hard to do extras, particularly if you're flying - how many beers can one pack in their luggage? If you're driving or you're at "home", yes, id do extras. I always feel a bit lame not giving extras but my thinking is if the other person is flying, then the "extra" is that they flew and saved us on shipping.

for me, IP means in NYC, during the week when I commute to/from the office. that said, it's a real pain in the ass to lug extra bottles into the city on my commute, so unless it's a real good friend and we're on multiple trades, I ask up front if we can skip extras. Carrying 2-3 bombers is what I can handle in my backpack after laptop, lunch, etc.

I'd agree that IP trades are a bit tricky as regards extras but if you're flying intl with checked baggage then it's easy to bring a few bottles more.

I usually skip extras in local trades. I've done about 5 and everytime they didn't bring extras. So, I stopped doing it. Then I did an IP trade with a guy flying in from Chicago who really hooked me up, all I had extra for him was 1 lousy can of Jai Alai and I felt like a jackass. I just didn't expect him to pack *extras* in his luggage.

I'd say skip it if it's local, but be upfront about it.

Yeah, travelling is tricky. I flew in to MI for the holiday and did an IP trade with @pest. Unfortunately stupid Spirit baggage limits had me within like 0.3 lbs of my limit so I couldn't bring extras. Felt bad, as that was the first trade I haven't done extras on and pest was beyond generous with extras. I'm planning on evening up with him eventually though

Nowadays I only trade for beers that I drink so if it's IP with someone local, I rarely have anything interesting non-local to extra. More often than not, I'll be upfront and say "mind if we don't do extras" and often hear back "whew, thank god, I am having a hard time figuring out what to extra you". IP with travelers is easier because I can find limited locals/seasonals that I can bring along. In either case, I DO NOT expect extras from the other person.

No worries at all I knew in advance that you were flying so I didn't anticipate any. I was just trying be a jerk and putting you over the weight limit anyway. :grinning:

Usually involves me taking the train to Penn and meeting someone in the city. I also drove to tørst to meet @Janeinma for an I/p trade on Monday. Throwing in nice extras always helps build great relationships in my experience.

Always for me unless its stated no extras...I guess I dont understand the no extras because its an IP...To ME, those are the kind of guys you always want to extra as you can really make a great friend...

I'm always an "extras" guy and never follow the rules on trading when someone says no extras, that's just more incentive on my end. What??? Someone telling me I can't give extras. FUBAR I say . I have only done a couple of IP trades and just did one recently where we discussed "no extras", as we get the same distribution (local WI trader). It was the first time I "agreed", but then I thought about his preference of beers he was drinking at the time in one of our BM's. Needless to say, I was more happy to see his reaction in person with the extras, as I was for the actual trade. The reaction of a kid at X-mas!!! You can take the man out of a boy, but never the boy out of a man. These reactions are what trading is about for me personally.

Edit- Oh yeah, I think I made a new friend
