Yep, totally feel you on that, but I guess I break my own rules more often than I keep them... Self control might be an issue for me :stuck_out_tongue:

Too much? Trying to control the supply and demand issues of America? Good luck with that. Just buy what you like and can afford. Like a 12 pack of any thing Sierra Nevada for $ 13.00 here in MA. Beer, try having bourbon or bicycle habit. I have both. Or you could just stop whining and enjoy what you have. Wait, Aussy ? BaawhaaHaa. Coopers anyone?

Most Bourbon is also way cheaper than Scotch. You can easily find some good Bourbon for 20-40€/bottle.

Little O and I went to the Ray McCallum father/son basketball camp in June 1999 in Muncie, just before we moved here.

We had a ball - and no ZD.

There shouldn't be hard or fast rules for pricing. Each purchase should be looked at as individually.

Are you willing to pay $x for the item and do you have the money to afford the item. If yes, buy. If no, don't buy. It is very simple. If you set a hard rule, you may miss something that you wish you would have not set the hard rule.

While I rarely go crazy on the prices I pay, and I am more than happy to buy up everything at the $2-5 12 oz that no one really goes crazy for, I will snap up something if I see it and feel like buying it. My try to stick around $10-11 for a bomber, but also go over that as well in instances. A lot of times when I make these exceptions are when I get some good commission checks. When I get bad commission checks my buying habits will be almost exclusively shelf turds, because that is what my pocketbook dictates.

The prices I feel most comfortable paying should have no bearing on the prices others are willing to pay. We all have our limits, and a lot of times those limits have a lot to do with how much disposable income we have. Sometimes I am unwilling to spend big on dinner and go to the local Thai place that has $7 entrees. That shouldn't have any impact on the guy going to the restaurant with the master chef and paying $80 for his Pad Thai.

10 or so? That I ride and are in working order. Fills the garage, plus shed. Have wheels and tires in racks of said garage, plus project bikes and parts. So, no issues there. Got a beer cellar and fridge, and a bourbon cellar too.

You make some good points. As far as the 10% goes I think we need to convince this 10%, that if they would avoid purchasing from a specific and overpriced brewery for about a year they will be able to purchase it for about half the price. I think you're right a blanket price for all breweries all at once is unrealistic. We should pick 1 or 2 breweries a year to focus on. So for example, you would buy a Cascade sour instead of a Bruery sour, a Firstone Walker BA stout instead of a Bruery BA stout, basically substitute a different beer for every Bruery beer you would have bought for a year. If everyone agreed and did this their prices would come down.

Well if you could convince all the 10%, sure - although I would think most people won't be super motivated to change their behavior. You mention a few interesting breweries though - Bruery sours sit around at least here in Chicago because of price. So do hoppin frog and Eclipse things - it is already happening for the more average beers, but I just don't see it happening for the really great things - when people are willing to camp out overnight to get a shot at a bourbon county variant, I don't see them being willing to boycott just because of the price...

I don't make a habit of paying big money but will for something I really want. I'd pay $40 for a prop without blinking an eye:wink:

I know a lot of people also think FFF is high and on some things they may be but $40 a case for ZD? Sounds damn good!

Totally with you on that - around here in Chicago, I can get you any number of cases of things like Backmasking, but Permanent Funeral sells out in a day. Backmasking is a very nice beer, just overpriced at $10-12 a bomber - quality is already dictating a number of beers from high priced breweries sit for ages.

I voted $45, but thats really only if it were somethig very special. if i could get westy 12, a particular cantillon or something like that, id pay the $45. in most cases though i dont like to spend more than $25 and i dont make a habit of that

I kind of wish prices would go up so there's some the limited stuff left till I get there. Nothing's more irritating than not being able to get it at any price.

The things to take away from all these "my beer is too expensive" threads out are:
    • You don't have to buy the beer if you don't want to there is no gun to your head.
    • Beer is a luxury item, we do not need it to live as much as that voice in your head tell you other wise.
    • Supply and Demand help dictate price, and that price trickles down the supply chain to you the end consumer.
    • You want the cheapest beer, buy it from the source. The supply chain skips a few links this way.
    • What might seem expensive to you will be reasonable to other.
