Don't be a CraftHole

I'm not a Crafthole...quite the opposite. I just look for interesting Beer or Old Stand By's. By the way, I'd rather Dome Big Bad Baptist over KBS.

 

I find the same thing when people are talking about a tap list at a bar, oh they only have (names 8-10 more available craft breweries) that sucks, too bad they don't have anything good. Ten years ago they would have been ecstatic over those offerings and now they can barely stomach even the thought of drinking anything there. I too love finding something new or hard to find on tap, I too don't drink many of the readily available options as I used too, but don't be a whiny b*&^% about bar actually having some decent beers on tap even if they aren't as rare as you would like.

 

I have a fridge with both KBS and BBB.

 

"Good stuff" is entirely subjective. IMHO, anyone who makes such a statement comes across as pompous and ridiculous. I like a lot of great craft beers but sometimes a Genny Cream tastes just as good to me.

 

Craft doesn't make people and ass, they were that way before they got here.

 

Crafthole...ha ha! Did you make it up? I haven't heard the term before, but if you originated it, you might have started something new.

 

I'm a ticker, there, I'll finally admit it. I don't ask for rares from anyone except one beer inventory guy, and even then, it's few and far between.

I'm also sure the stale joke mentioned in the opening post gets old, but I don't think it makes them a crafthole.

 

I usually say, "Buddy, beer me! And make it the good stufff!"

If it's not kbs, bcbs or [insert overrated beer], i pour it on the floor, piss into the glass and say, "The good stuff asshole, the gooooood stuff!"

 

The only thing I'm a snob about is fresh beer. I prefer "shelf turds," but please take it off the shelf if its' out of date, or your customers are complaining. I've told my local place twice now that the SN kellerweis is not only tasting bad, but is more than 40 days out of code at this point. I've emailed SN needless to say.

No need to get fussy about it

 

Get to know the people that sell you your beer. And like Dalton once said, sort of: "Be nice. If someone gets in your face and calls you a crafthole, I want you to be nice."

 

There was a saying back in the day when the circle of craft beer lovers was a lot smaller ... "The craft beer culture is 99% asshole free". Sadly that is not true anymore, more like ~95% asshole free. We also tend to notice it or point it out a bit more. In the grand scheme of things the good out weighs the bad.

 

As they say, you catch more flies with honey. I make it a point to be friendly with the clerks at my most frequent stores and it paid off with the KBS release; I had one store let me know to come by because he knew I wanted it and another store got some in from a sister store for me. You know what the best part about talking to these guys is though? It's not getting the current hyped release, its that whenever I go in I know there is someone there who knows what I like and can recommend something new and tasty for me to try.

 

I go to the local 'craft' beer store because I'm looking for the rarer and more limited stuff. If I want common shelf stuff, I'll pick it up at the grocery store when I'm getting groceries for a cheaper price. Guess I'm a crafthole. I'm okay with it

 

There will always be a certain amount of douchebag behavior when you deal with the public. There does seem to be more of it when it comes to craft beer though. I saw a jackass lecture the twenty year old behind the counter about something when I stopped for a six pack this afternoon. We shook our heads and had a laugh at his expense when it was my turn to check out. Do these people not realize the rest of the world is laughing at them?

 

Crafthole.. I like it!

Quite often, I'll ask a person on the floor about availability, but never in a snarky way. I guess if you hear anything too many times, you'll tire of it.

Flipside, if you do hear it a lot.. maybe it IS time to get some of the good stuff

 

funny thing you mention KBS, I turned that beer down for a sixer of SNPA and I am just as happy!
