So you seem to mean one (or more) of these things, not sure which
-The customer needs to buy some regular beers they don't want so the store can get the things they do want?
-The system the brewery/distributor has in place to reward the stores that sell a lot of everyday beer and penalize the ones that don't is unfair and should be ended?
-Folks should only shop the more popular stores for the special releases since they will be more likely to have them?

I'm just excited about the new vocabulary(crafthole) we have all learned from this thread! For the love of beer, don't be a crafthole!

I always look around for something to buy. But if they don't list on BM or have year-old bottles stashed on top of heaters, I will tell them.

As mentioned by the OP, making remarks to a store worker about how crappy the selection is is douchy. But these two posts hit home because I often walk into the store with a specific beer in mind, or looking for something new and exciting to me, and walk out empty handed. I might ask if they have it, and if not, end of story. Walking into a store and leaving empty handed because they don't have what you're looking for is not being a "craft hole."

I don't see guys misbehaving , sure there's guys out looking for stuff it's everywhere, but I can't remember any beer guy acting like an ass. Those beers he walked past to ask about the Kbs will be there on the way out, they'll be there tomorrow. There's a reason why guys walk past other beers to get to the special releases, and it's just more than hard to get thst drives it, ya know its driven by being a great beers that's incredibly difficult to get here. There might be a 30 minute window and it's gone, no need to ask anyone after that. If Kbs was a rare beer that was shitty it would sit, it's not so it doesn't. I wouldn't exactly call Kbs a Whale either.

I don't have to worry about that then.

I wonder how many people outside of New England recognize that your "Crafthole" is a play on "Masshole". Nice addition to the lexicon.

I'm not one, but there are times I go to store looking solely for a specific beer that was recently released (Parabola perhaps). I may already be well stocked on other stuff (and I am right now from a recent Vermont trip), so don't be offended if I don't buy. I'd certainly never say anything about it though.

I think that it's fair to go into a store and search out particular brews, but you got to do it in a respectful way. Look on your own first, if you don't see what you're looking for, ask someone and be respectful of their answer.

The other week I went to go buy some Trillium for a trade and asked a guy working at the store if they had any KBS. He said no, that it sold out in hours, but he got a lot of it and that if I followed their Twitter or Facebook I'd know about releases in the future. We ended up shooting the shit for a while about Trillium and Night Shift, and then when I checked out, the guy slid me a bottle of KBS at the register and just said to "be cool".

Respect pays off. Don't be a brewchebag.

Crafthole, clerkhole, whateverhole, are all very nice additions to the vocabulary. Brewchebag is a bit of a stretch in my opinion. I still think asshat is my favorite though. I think the bottom line is don't be any combination of ass, hole, or douche and your life will be much better for it.

Im for drinking what you want to drink but dont have to preach or be a d-bag about it. But I would NEVER call KBS a whale or even close to one.

I can say I fall into a snob category. I will listen to the bottle shop guys about new beers coming in but for the most part if its an IPA from a store its G-Bot, Sea Hag, or SOS. Unless I take a ride to tree house.

I am more likely to vary and branch out trying new offerings with wilds/sours now.

My friend and i always use the term scumbag, it's super satisfying, like a fresh pale ale after a long day of work. Asshat is a good one too. Cheers

First of all...love the term crafthole, I'm taking credit for it in my circles. We don't get a ton of highly anticipated Special Releases. Mexican Cake, HopSlam, KBS, Bourbon County are the big players, and we usually sell out quick. I do get some customers who come looking for Mexican Cake about 2 months after its release (we sold out in about 5 hours last year ) and are disappointed, but not ass-holish about it

I've said it before, there does seem to be a lot more snobs, craftholes, or whatever term you want to use. I have friends who enjoy Budweiser. I personally have never liked it, but that doesn't mean I'm going to berate them because of it. It's just beer. Drink what you like and vote with your dollars.

In our shops, you have to ask for the good stuff. They keep KBS, BCBS, etc behind the counter. And I'll usually ask how much of a particular beer they got. Mainly because I'm curious, and partially because I'm trying to gauge the pulse.

I have commented before about stores getting a fresh new IPA and putting it on the warm shelf. One time PseudoSue was still cold from the warehouse/truck, and sitting there getting warmer. I could hear it dying.

Live and learn, die and forget it all. When you open your doors to the public one of these guy will invariably stroll in. Just hire pretty girls and make sure they ignore him.

Wait, do people actually talk shit to store owners who don't have a particular beer they're looking for? The OP seems like a bit of a straw man post to me... just because I've never seen anyone act that way, at least.

A bottle shop in my area posted this the day of KBS release

"can we talk about the guy who yelled at us earlier for kicking our keg of Founders Brewing Co. kbs before he arrived? as i tripped over the case i had saved for actual customers that couldnt make it but shop with us daily....."
