sits down next to you at his establishment (also happens to be the owner) and talks with you (the good part) then someone else sits on the other side of him and they get to talking about a new very limited beer release including some pictures of the new bottles on the owners cell phone, a rather delicious sounding description of said beer, all for a special event. I'm like, what the what! I want one of those... How do I get one of those?... Why wasn't I invited to said special event?... I can't stop thinking about this teaser and its been a week!
that was your chance to find out, if they wanted to be secretive about it they would have went somewhere else.
Happened to me once, sitting at the bar at my local watering hole/Brewpub talking to the owner when I asked for a taste of another breweries IPA that was on tap. The brewery is about 15 miles North. I taste it and say, "You know I really want to like this breweries beer and I keep trying it but this just tastes bland" Turns out the brewer is sitting right next to me. It all ended well though, had a good conversation and I can say that their beers are quite a bit better now, but for a moment there I sure wished I had kept my mouth shut.
^^^ similar instance My buddy and his wife were sitting with another couple at my bar, he tells me there's a special released beer from a local brewery, I had a taste, and it was pretty good. When I walked by the table, my buddy says "did you like it", I told him I did, and was surprised because I thought most of what that brewery put out was garbage (I'm keeping it clean)....well the dude at the table with my friend was the head brewer at the brewery I just bad-mouthed...I didn't know that until later, but I still felt like an ass
Sounds like most have been receptive of criticism, which someone has to be in a business like beer. Good on those brewers for A) not being a pretentious jerk about your critique, and B) doing something about it. Can't ask for much more. Got to talk with a brewer/owner at his place, without knowing it was him, and had a nice convo with him and even got a little scoop on upcoming release that year. Gave me a taste of the christmas beer too (this was July).
I think Brewers need this criticism, they dont know that they put out a bad product until someone tells them. Not every beer a brewer puts out is going to be perfect unless they have made mistakes...but it is up to us the drinker to let them know that they have made some or else they keep climbing that pedestal without ever knowing.
Yeah, it's a bummer when some kids don't invite me to their birthday party even though I totally would have went if they had asked me. But then I just realize there's a million other kids that want me at their birthday parties. Wait, what? Oh my bad, your post sounded so similar to this type of situation.
Its hard coming to the realization you are not the center of everyone's universe. You could make your own special event, and then not invite anyone. That'll teach 'em a lesson.
