I paid $12.99 at one store for Doom and $19.99 at another. I think the store is to blame for the gouging. I am looking forward to trying it though! Founders is the best!

I don't care what you think about "how doom this might taste". It's good. I picked up a bottle after work earlier ($13.50). It's so bizarre tasting that it actually works out well.

I tried to get Doom in NJ today and the place ran out, a friend of mine was able to snag one yesterday. If you decide to go for the Double Trouble buy the Doom also and I'll send you the money (and a few beers) and also pay for the shipping to my front doorstep!!

Double Trouble is one of Founders weaker offerings, so Doom is natch a better option. The flavors of the barrel and hops clash a bit up front, but they sort of harmonize through the finish, if that makes any sense. It's a good beer, but American barleywine works much better as a hoppy beer to age in bourbon barrels than this, and it isn't as good as either Hop Crisis or Burton Baton, the only comparables in style I've had, though they lack bourbon obviously.

Summary - worth buying 1 or 2 of as it doesn't break the bank, but nothing special.

In lies the beauty of competition though right? More and more breweries are popping up all over the country keeping everyone honest. Sure, Bruery is charging $40 for Chocolate Rain and selling out of it, but at some point that market will be exhausted and there will be numerous other breweries making a comparable high ABV beer that they can make fists of cash on by selling it for $20.

It's almost like the Westy 12, Rocherfort 10, & St. Bernadus 12 thing. According to the rankings Westy 12 is the best of the three and when I had them all side by side I would agree, but for the cost and availability difference St. Bernadus is the one I go to. I understand Westy 12 isn't the type of business and profit oriented brewery that Bruery is, but my point is that there is a limit to what these breweries can charge because many others are on their heels willing to make quality beers, sell them for less, and still make considerable profits. In 2008 we didn't have the likes of Cigar City, Bruery, Hill Farmstead, Crooked Stave, Perennial, and many others... as long as competition continues to pop up, it's my prediction that the mass market will keep beer prices reasonable simply by having options. Of course there will be a market for the premium high end beers, but that will be a small percentage to that of craft beer as a whole in my opinion.

At $9.99 for DT and $13.99 for Doom, it was worth picking up both if for nothing other than giving them a try. I love my beer shop. I got a phone call that lasted 18 sec that sounded like this, "Doom is here...I'm locking up your bottle. Come get it"! I don't know when I'll try Doom, but DT is decent and worth what I paid...not the price at some of these other places are charging.

I would definitally go DT. I personally think Doom was one beer that did not live up to the hype.

That's just crazy. I thought the prices in Chicago for Doom were reasonable at $16.99...

I had Doom last night and I did not like it at all. My buddy with whom I split the bottle with said that to him it tasted like Robitussin. I was a little weary of this beer to begin with and think it's all hype. I love DT though and its one of my favorite DIPAs.
