I recently tried 2 of their beers recently. Wilma's wandering eyepa and the thrilla in vanilla porter. The eyepa was a tad sweet for me but still good and the porter was excellent. Actually went back for more of the porter later on. These were the only two brews I had. Has anybody else tried any of their other brews or even been to the brewery?

I've had a couple of their other beers at the brewery and I thought they were solid. Relative to the other breweries that are somewhat close to me in south wake county/Johnston/Harnett county (Aviator, Deep River, White Rabbit, and the "temporarily closed" Hossana) , they might be the best going right now.

That porter was the best I had there, I didn't particularly care for that steak cake stout, but it wasn't bad either. They had a dubbel also that was damn solid.

I'll be travelling to Raleigh from Greenville in a few weeks and I am thinking about detouring off 264/64 to stop by here and Deep River. Is it worth a stop to Double Barley? A lot of the beers they list on their website really intrigue me.

Or does anywhere in Raleigh carry them on tap?

I think mutual distributes their kegs across the whole state, ive seen them in beer study in Chapel Hill before. I'd say its worth a stop, nice people and pretty good beer

I live in New Bern and work in Greenville and have detoured many times to go to the DB taproom on my way to hockey games. Check their hours though. They are super nice people and the beer is good. The dubbel is solid and I like to mix the Steak Cake Stout with the Thrilla in Vanilla Porter. That may be a no no but is darn good. Both of those beers are both solid on there own though.

I've seen several DB beers on tap at Tyler's Taproom at Seaboard Station.

So bottles are being distributed by Mutual locally. Ive had everything but Touche IPA (their lowest gravity beer at ~7%). I thought Thrilla in Vanilla was the best they did. Steak Cake was kind of boring for an Imperial Stout. Wilma's was just kind of there. The Raspberry Stout was just not working. It had the makings of a great stout, but just didnt mesh for a reason that I cant explain.

I wanna try the Sexy Rexy Imp Amber, but I havent yet sadly.

Good job using recently twice in the same sentence JP:slight_smile:

I completely agree with this. I've only had one raspberry stout previously (Widmer Bros Raspberry Russian Imperial Stout) which I quite liked. For me, the raspberry was too artificial in DB's raspberry stout. Straight raspberry candy or concentrate or something. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't a drain pour by any means, just not stellar.

Yes. Back in january. I was anxious to try more but the only other one available was the raspberry stout. But I'm hesitant to try it based on the reviews above.
