It seems like many rare beers, Double Black's value comes and goes depending on how many people are looking to track one down at the moment. At times I've seen it cost an arm and a leg and then it kind of off the radar. Right now it kind of seems off the radar.

Anyone trade it or for it lately or even in the past? If so, share a few details. Cheers!

I have high hopes for a third batch of this, there seems to be plenty of it left, as Struise throws it around at beer festivals left, right and center. No idea of batch numbers (this wasn't a numbered limited edition), but I do know they released two batches. The first with foil, the second with wax.

I've heard of it going for a Rare or a Choccy Rain/Black Tuesday 2:1. Price-wise that seems about right: DB cost roughly $55 at the brewery at the time it was sold. Rumors say that Struise will start bottling the remainder of the Black Damnations upcoming fall season, so there might be a good chance of a third batch of DB. If so, I'm stocking two or three to keep my lonely cellar bottle company, that's for sure.

    Cheers!

Where did you hear/read this? Hopefully it's credible, I just released my bowels.

IMO you shouldn't have had to add the Mex. Cake. Should have easily been able to get 4 Beats for a 750ml Double Black.

Edit: re-read. You came up big on that one!

I think he meant he GOT a double black and mexican cake for his 4 beats, not the other way around. If I interpreted that correctly I'd say that's a pretty damn good deal.

Yea. Got that after re-reading, hence the edit. I very much agree with you.

So was the DB one batch with 2 releases and if so, when was the batch brewed and when were the 2 releases bottled? Also, any thoughs on a realistic time on how long these can age? Sorry for all the questions, this beer is very intriguing!

your guess is as good as mine... it is almost like a whiskey milkshake, I think at the least it would hold up well for 5 years easy.

I traded my other bottle $4$ for rasputin XI's and a bourbon george. Twas quite tasty all the way around.

Maybe a dumb question, but is DB bourbon barrel aged and, if so, is the bourbon very prominent?

it's ice-distilled Cuvee Delphine, Cuvee Delphine is four-roses bourbon barrel Black Albert. The icing takes the Delphine from 13 to 26%, and yes, it's very bourbon-heavy.

Whiskey milkshake? That sound like the most delicious description of a beer I've ever heard, I can't wait!

Yea I don't know what I was thinking. Screw that I'm not trading my 1st batch bottle.

Yeah, I just picked up a second bottle so I have one to age. About 1-2 years ago I had a very small sample (thankyou to whoever that fine BA was at the Freetail release) and I remember loving it. It was such a tease though and since the sample was small I couldn't really "get into it" like I wanted it to. It just left me wanting it that much more.

If its nearly as good as I remember and tastes like a "whiskey milkshake" then there's no chance in Hell I'll trade it, especially with that much aging potential.

Doesn't this look like a milkshake???

Although while I think it'll hold up fine, I don't see a need to age it. I think it's too brash for time to really do anything to it.

    I don't know whether that's sexy or scary. I don't know whether I should cower or well...nevermind.

I drank one and traded my other for 3 AFTW. Such a great beer. Whiskey milkshake is a great description. The beer is a work of art. I regret trading my second bottle.
