Just saw this as a $21/4-pack downtown Boston. Is this consistent with what you guys are seeing elsewhere? I know on a bomber equivalent basis it's pretty competitive, but it just seems a bit high to me. What are your experiences?

Our suggested MSRP is $13.99 plus tax and deposit. Prices will vary based on individual retailers.

$21 is insane, but I guess if Julios is charging $17 it does seem inline with the increased costs a smaller footprint shop in a higher cost city would have.

To me - MSRP means the brewer, distributor, and storeowner should all make a decent profit at that price, without the customer feeling like they are getting ripped off. I thought the beer was great, but at 50% and above mark-up, I felt I got ripped off, especially with the MRSP of $14.

Cost to MA retailers was higher than this from the distributor. It would be illegal for us to price it at 13.99

Are you comfortable with prices varying that much?

That explains it - so the brewery sets MSRP, distributor ignores, and prices it to retailers at MSRP +X, thus causing retailer to price at MSRP +X+Y.

So these stores are illegally pricing beer below MSRP?

It's probably a mistake, but yeah, it's against ABCC 204 CMR 2.00: "(1) No holder of a license issued under M.G.L. c. 138, s. 15 [off-premise sales] shall sell or offer to sell any alcoholic beverages at a price less than invoiced cost. Cost is defined as net cost appearing on the invoice for said alcoholic beverage."

One of the worst liquor laws in MA (right behind the anti- happy hour law) that conspires to screw consumers & guarantee profits to distros & retailers. Directly relates to why we have some of the highest beer prices in the country.
