There's a handful of IPA's I'd take before Heady Topper. Does that make Heady overrated? We all have different personal preferences.

To my taste buds DD isn't even close to Enjoy By, and I am a huge Lawson's fan. The anecdotal word I am getting from all my craft beer buds here in VT who drop $10 on lawson bomber at every chance is that DD is solid but way over priced @ $15 4 pk. Of 12 oz. A 4 pk of HT 16 oz is $12 - $14 DD is the best otter creek offering but the least of Lawson's. I agree. And enjoy by, to me, is superior. I got 4 in the fridge, and I won't seek out DD again

Never heard of this beer until this thread. But, IMHO, if Enjoy By is the standard you're judging a beer by, the standards aren't very high.

Just comparing the two, i think is the idea. Not using enjoy by as a standard

Nothing wrong with Enjoy By. It's a solid beer that Stone makes a ton of and sends out all over the country. That's not a bad standard to aspire to.

It is all subjective. And it was a comparison not using enjoy by as a standard. For instance you reviewed Alaskan raspberry wheat higher than avg., whereas I don't care for fruity beers at all and run from them.

Good points and I agree this happens all the time (bigfoot, bcs, and many others come to mind), although not quite what I was talking about....

I was talking about a quality product for a similiar or cheaper price. it is much harder for them to compete with a bigger company. as to which one is better, I dont know. I have never had DD.

I love the fact that they produced a great beer at a price similiar or cheaper then stone (even though its a more expensive format then 22oz bottles). It also seems like they produced a decent amount of it too (not obviously as much as enjoy by).

I have passed up enjoy by the last few times I have seen it for better, cheaper, and more local options (like Gandhi Bot) or other non IPA beers.

I also dont like the gimicky bullshit of the voting crap on stone enjoy by.

Also in terms of hype, I think enjoy by has gotten more hype then DD has.

I know I'll have to duck for cover after saying this, but I think Enjoy By is hugely overrated and just a pretty good DIPA with a great marketing scheme

    I had the EB 4/20.

It was good but nothing mind-blowing..

No, but amongst many BAs it seems that "anything" Lawsons is automatically "amazing" , which IMO is false. Tons of fanboy-ism going on WRT Lawsons, at least for those it seems hyping it for trading purposes <gag>

I like double dose better. Enjoy by just tastes like onion juice to me.
I'd take kiwi or ghandi bot any day

No offense, but the way you described Heady Topper, you're telling me you're not a fan boy? You think it wasn't exactly the same with The Alchemist before the flood??? At least I can admit I'm a RRBC fan boy.... They can do no wrong in my book. Well... minus Consecration. Everyone has their own, whether they can admit it or not.

And I do LOVE your avatar!

True enough that Double Dose comes in more expensive than Heady, but a great many beers do. Seems pretty well known that Heady is a good value for such a great beer. Enjoy by, at least here in NH ($8 a bomber where I buy it) is the most expensive of the bunch. Double Dose is in the middle. To each his own but I think the DD is great and hope they brew it again as I will be more than happy to get ahold of some more.

Imo Lawsons Tripple Play Ipa trumps all of them. The more I have of it the more I'm starting to even prefer it over Heady.

For me loved Double Dose and Enjoy by. Do not think DD was overrated at all, an amazing near perfect DIPA. Enjoy was in my fridge at the same time, if I had to choose would take both in my fridge at all times. They are different, but equally delicious.

I was thoroughly disappointed with the current Enjoy by 11.12.13. I felt it had little malt backbone, but a good hop flavor. Double DOse kinda blew me away. Great fruit and bitterness upfront with great body. The high price tag ($18/4-pack) is my only complaint. A couple bars have had it on draft, though for a reasonable price.

The only perfect score to an IPA or Double IPA was Triple Play. That beer is so amazing.

I wouldn't really compare the two. Different styles of DIPA.

    Double Dose is better though.
