September 19. 240 cases with a 1 case limit for the first 100 then a two 4 pack limit after. Any idea what kind of crowd they'll get?

That's what I'm thinking. Last year it was on shelves here for over a month. But release events and the hype machine may change all that.

While DD was good, I don't think there is the hype machine behind it to draw a crazy crowd, at least from Vermonters. For comparisons sake the last two Mastermind releases (8/28 and today) haven't been busy at all, and that beer is amazing. But you never really know.

I don't think it's hype (or lack of hype), but as someone living in Vermont (I avoid saying "Vermonter" due to the 5 generations requirement), I avoid any potential crazy beer release because I don't want to deal with crowds. I loved Mastermind last year on tap at the brewery and Siptemberfest, but I don't go to the beer releases because of the potential to be crazy (same as I avoid all Alchemist/LFL/HF events).

Just FYI the Mastermind releases haven't been crazy at all. I showed up at the brewery at 2pm and there was no one else there and they were stilll canning. My guess is there will be plenty tomorrow You should definitely check it out.

Also, as someone so plugged into the VT beer scene, how can you not go to any of those events?

Thanks for the info. I hope to find Mastermind at the bevy or City Market, like with Hodad's initial releases. I really loved Mastermind (more than Second Fiddle) on draft last year.

There's a lot of great and good VT beer being made besides the "big 3." There's no reason to drive hour(s) away and stand in lines or wait for hour(s) when I can get good/great beer within 30-60 minutes away with no lines, no hype, and no waiting.

Also, wife and I only have 1 car which is currently being used for her work and after-work classes/yoga/activities/charity work, so I have limited mobility. Hoping to get second car very soon, so I can travel off on my own a bit (for these inner week releases) to get to at least a few of these less crowded events (like Fiddlehead's canning). My bike can only take me so far and limits what I can bring home.

No Thanks. I'll get run over in Burlington riding one of those. Been looking for last several weeks, probably get a Forester (no surprise) within next few days/weeks, before first snow.

Any idea on how wide distro will be? I will be in VT in early October, but I am wondering if Double Dose will show up here, as Overgrown has.

@jamesewelch I have come to believe that the very high usage of bumper stickers in VT is so that people can tell which Subaru is theirs in parking lots.

Last year it was quite plentiful in the Albany NY area (if this helps)

Can't be positive but last year I believe it made full Otter Creek distribution except for CT due to some sort of approval screw up as I recall.

It was in CT last year, but barely. Has anyone heard how much is coming to CT this year?

Yeah, sucked just some scattered cases were in the Hartford area only.Nothing in S.CT. I asked on facebook,OC said to stay tuned for official info. All I ask is that whatever arrives,it's distributed evenly.

    Cheers

WMass didn't get any at all, even though we've gotten all of the others. Must be in the same boat as CT...

Hopefully this year will change at little.

I live in the Hartford area and missed it last year. Sounds like a great beer. I hope I get to try it, but it sounds like many people that want it will not get it. Not enough to go around. Oh well, plenty of other great beers to drink. lets keep our fingers crossed we get some, but f* it if we do not!

Think the lack of crowds for Mastermind is due it falling from favor with many who bought the last release. 7 out of 8 of the guys I bought it for were not happy with it. Only one liked it better than Second Fiddle. I will be going for the Double Dose because my beer guru says that its better than Second Fiddle. But I doubt that as I put Second Fiddle above Double Sunshine and Heady Topper.

I mean tastes are subjective, but how anyone can like the citrusy/tropical/juicy DIPAs like DS, Heady, and pretty much all the HF offerings and not like Mastermind is beyond me. But I'm not going to complain about not having to wait in line for it. It is the best bottled/canned VT DIPA offering going IMO, with the expection of Double Sunshine. But that takes so much effort to get, I'll buy this by the case all day long instead.

If you haven't already had it, you should try "Scream" from New Glarus in Wisconsin.
