Big fan of this this year, doesn't really have that hint of onion that last year did. Not that I thought it was bad last year but I can understand this being more to most peoples' tastes. Of all the fruity NE style IPAs, this might be the most bitter while still having that fruitiness which is kind of cool.

Need more reeveewss on this one...2013 DD was one of the best hoppy beers I ever had. 2014 was kind of boozy and not super hoppy on the nose.

Do you happen to be at the store at the precise time the truck shows up every Friday?

DD also suffers from "the big shift" in beers since 2013. That really seemed to be the year Heady, Hill Farmstead, Trillium, Treehouse and all of the big juice bomb breweries took off in New England. Now with so many really world class DIP's and IPA's right in this concentrated little area people like to just assume this IPA will not be as good as it was before and that there is something newer and cooler out there. 99% of the people who don't like it here would spill a whole different message if they were standing in front of Mike G or Sean L sipping on a cup of it at a festival. It's very good. But our standards have been so go god damn ridicoulsly high at this point that the juicyness of a beer is really all that matters. Look at all of the fests, tastings, releases, etc. I went to a bunch before 2013 and can definitively say that 2013 was the year shit went bonkers. In 2012/13 you could waltz into the Alchemist Cannery at almost any given time and walk out with beer or 6 cases of it. It was just after that, when heady truly blew up the New England market did things start to change and get MUCH more hectic. Take Zwanze day(non ipa) as an example and the difference there in 2 years.

I truly think Heady was the beer responsible for the madness we see now. That beer opened peoples minds to Lawsons, Hill Farmstead, Fiddlehead, Foley Bros, etc. At that point the hop profile and overall taste of Heady was considered exactly what people wanted and perfect. Cue the rise of juice bars like Trillium, Treehouse, etc and the standards have changed. This all I think directly affects peoples opinions of a beer like Double Dose. It's an excellent beer that is now living in a world where people in MA now will go out of their way to get Trillium and Treehouse and seeing the names LAWSON on a beer is almost kinda old news now. Rewind two years, people would flock to double dose.

For anyone around Burlington Vt, Rt 7 liquor had multiple cases on the floor when you walk in, 2 four packs a person at $15.99 each.

I can only compare this years batch to batch 1, but it's definitely been tinkered with. Aroma is great but there's way more caramel malt/sweetness than I remember. I actually looked up my review on Brewgene and the picture of the beer is much lighter in color. Kind of reminds me of Boomsauce a bit.

If it is anything like Boomsauce it changed a lot......in a really bad way.

Tastes delicious to me. Def has some bitter bite but that's refreshing for a change. Great nose, boom sauce wishes it was this. This is also after having a glass of foundation after glow at birch before and still tastes great.

This is because of Heady, I definitely agree. It entirely changed everything about beer culture in VT. Suddenly, the old standbys were looking (and tasting) really not so great in comparison. This created the demand for similar high quality, and Lawson's star shot up immediately... and Otter Creek nearly dropped off the face of local drinking. Sean L's working with Otter Creek for DD coupled with the genius image redesign and rise of Mike G ended up redefining the entire brewery's focus and jumpstarting its popularity, most definitely. But this almost didn't happen, because people just didn't notice. They were too busy enjoying the rest of what was going on.

From what I recall, 2 years ago, no one really flocked to Double Dose. It sat on supermarket shelves where I was able to snap up and enjoy several 4 packs over a few weeks. In fact, I had to work at first to convince the SO to buy it- he was sure it was just more of the same Otter Creek he didn't care for at the time. He didn't think Lawson would have any effect on the finished product. Obviously, this changed when he tried the beer!

Talking to several beer geeks a few months after this first release, I was surprised to hear that none had seen, heard of, or purchased the stuff. Not a single one. Word ended up getting around locally to look for it next year, because most hadn't had it. This led to the subsequent disappointment when it wasn't the same quality as the hype had led people to believe. And I agree that it just wasn't as good in bottles, but was just as fantastic on draft or in growlers (of which I had a few).

Hopefully this year's will be great again! Would sure be nice to see it in supermarkets again... or at all, really.

    Drinking it now. Tastes great.

Really unfortunate that some people (not necessarily here) have reached the point where they can't really enjoy a beer for it's own sake, and it must be compared to another beer.

This is a good beer. I like it. Will buy it again if available. I will also enjoy other beers of the same style. ::shocking::
