Found a four-pack randomly in Somerville.. Good but would not re-buy at the price ($16 + tax/depos) in 4-pack form.

Had it from a growler cause that's all I could find around here, could taste similarities to SoS but overall the bitterness was too much in my opinion, back down the ibu's some and it's a much more enjoyable beer. First time I had it by the way, missed it the previous two years.

I'd love to know why Otter Creek doesn't make more of this stuff.

Just cracked one open and I have to tell ya, I don't get all the haters out there. Granted, it's not as special as the 2013 release but it's one helluva lot beter than last years miss. A bit 'pinier' and not quite as smooth as the 2013 but I'd grab another 4 pack at $16 in a heartbeat. Just my 2 cents.

Why doesn't every brewery that has one or more #whalezbro just make more of that beer? Pliny The Younger! KBS! Dark Lord! WE WANT MORE!

Sorry for the sarcasm, but this question comes up a lot. There are myriad reasons; in this particular case, it's not just Otter Creek, it's also Lawson's and hey, btw, he should make more Sip and Double Sunshine!

    Capacity, hops, time, etc.

Honestly, I think this beer is a shell of itself to me at least. It could be that my palate has been obliterated by the abundance of awesome New England IPAs. I only was able to get 2 bottles this year and they both were just average to me. Also 4-5 bucks for a 12 oz bottle is a steep price.

Either way, I've had great beers from both of these breweries and Double Dose was great 2 years ago and I can't recall whether or not I enjoyed it last year. All I know is that I can't wait to try Double or Nothing from these two breweries because this is probably the last year I'll shell out 10 bucks for 2 bottles of Double Dose.

I get that there's a reason, but it's less obvious to me in this case. Otter Creek must have the capacity to make more and they should have been able to get the hops for it after three years of making the stuff. It doesn't sound like Sean Lawson has been actively involved since the first batch, so is it just an agreement with Lawson's to limit production?

I had a glass of this on tap at the Skinny Pancake in Burlington and thought it was very good. Didn't impress me quite as much as when I had it last year, but I've tried a lot of IPAs since then. Best beer ever? No, but it's definitely a step above the stuff you can easily find on shelves most of the time.

    Ok...

A large portion of the hops in this and last year's batch have been donated by locals. Each time, Lawson nearly drains his well to provide half (first year) or at least a good % of the water used (first year they sucked it dry). He's been there for each batch as well.

Maybe there's more to this beer than just adding it to the rotation... Perhaps they enjoy the true collaboration part of it and like the aspect it's a seasonal. Not all seasonal a HAVE to become year-round...

Thanks for the info. To be clear, I'm not suggesting this beer SHOULD be produced in greater volume, I'm just curious as to WHY it isn't.

Half of the water used to make the beer is Sean Lawson's well water that has to be pumped out and trucked over the mountain to be brewed. Also, a lot of the hops are locally donated fresh hops. So in this case - it does make sense why more ins't brewed :sunglasses:

edit: I missed the part where someone said this exact same thing.

If anyone hasn't picked theirs up yet and feels like braving the opening day crowds, Wegmans in Westwood is fully stocked. $15.99 per 4-pack. I got a sixer of Be Hoppy for $11.99 instead, which they also had in ample supply.

Why are the local hops donated and not paid for?

My main man, Marco, still had some at Jerry's in Union Square/Somerville as of yesterday. Wanna say $16.80/4 pack?

I bought two at Downtown Wine & Spirits in Davis Square/Somerville for $11 total; I *assume* that is "singles" price and not "4 pack" price, but just guessing. I had two or three 4 packs of this in 2014--all at around $20/4 pack--and felt it returned the worst value of any beer purchase I made that year. A decent beer but laughable at that price. I purchased two this year (as noted above, at $5.50 per 12 oz bottle) and confirmed my 2014 opinion. I will not be purchasing this beer at this price point going forward, but am happy to let those who enjoy it have their fill.
