This is my first time trying any of Weyerbacher's wares. I picked up a 4 pack tonight from Woodman's in WI, which has a reputable department. When I poured my first bottle, it looks as though I crushed a saltine cracker in the beer. Is that typically a sign of a bad batch/infection? Is anyone a Double Simcoe regular who could help to explain? Thanks.

Outside of how it looked, did you taste it?

What does it taste like? I can ignore the floaties as long as it tastes ok.

I did. There was not any incredibly off flavors to it or anything. Nothing terrible about the aroma either. I can honestly say it was good, but sitting in the back of my mind is what I saw. It's hard being my first time with Double Simcoe as well.

Drink Heady out of a glass and tell me that after drinking it the look of it turned you off.

Probably just some yeast sediment. Double Simcoe is a great beer when fresh.

Double Simcoe is an extremely hazy beer. It should look like a very thick, mucky iced tea. If so, you're in good shape. I've never seen another DIPA that looks like Simcoe. It's bottle conditioned, hence the particles. It's one of my favorite double IPAs. It actually tastes different in the 750ml bottles as opposed to the 12oz. Do a side by side some time, you'll be surprised in the difference in the mouth feel.

Fair enough people... thanks all. I'm new to the game and I am sure many of you deal with types like me quite often. Was just a little uneasy and unsure. Appreciate the piece of mind.

It's bottle-conditioned. Chill in the fridge and pour slowly next time. Nothing wrong with a little yeast.

I was under the impression that the corked 750s were bottle conditioned and the 12ozs were not. Either way, as others have said it is always a hazy beer.

I don't like it as much since they made it unfiltered. Used to be one of my faves

Sounds old to me. Had the same experience with Heavy Seas Loose Cannon. The bottle was almost a year old. It didnt tast horrible, but nothing like a fresh one.
