Inspired by a recent trip to Vermont, I will try the recipe for Double Sunshine that was in BYO Oct. 2013. Has anyone tried the recipe?
A friend of mine brewed that beer from byo. It was amazing pre bottle conditioning. Not so much post bottle conditioning. If he had his kegging system back then the beer would have been ridiculous. Do it!!
I brewed it last week. It's in primary now with 4 oz of Citra dry hops (I skipped the transfer to secondary). I'll be bottling it at the end of the week.
FFreak, please follow up on yours. I brewed it on Sunday so I am a week behind you. Missed my og by two points, but the fermenter is smelling mighty nice today.
I took a hydrometer sample yesterday and tasted. My OG was slightly high at 1.080, but it looks to have finished relatively low at 1.013, so my ABV will be slightly high. Taste was fantastic! Tons of fruity hop flavor, perfect level of bitterness....I can't wait to bottle and taste the finished product.
I brewed this clone as a ten gallon batch. The base was the same, and it got split into two fermenters for different dry hop additions. The first batch got the 3oz of citra. The other batch got 3oz simcoe, 1 oz centennial, and 1oz chinook. In competition the all citra scored a full 10pts less than the other, and I agree. This is a good base beer for comex dryhopping, but I think I wont be revisiting this hop schedule. I do like the grist though.
My hop additions varied a little from the BYO recipe too. I bumped up the hopstand with 2 oz of Centennial and added .5 oz Amarillo to the dry hop.
My next "clone is going to use this grist with a la cumbre style hop schedule. Going for big, dank, and piney for the next go round. I popped my last one with the simcoe dryhop and it smelled just like fresh squeezed oj. Amazing.
This batch came out amazing. My best brew yet. The only problem I have is that I forgot to stir up the priming sugar in the bottling bucket, so my bottles vary in level of carbonation. Some verge on gushing while others are a little under-carbed (at two weeks in the bottle).
