Found a local Thai place that has a guy from Michigan who works the beer list. He has almost every beer from Bells by the bottle. Had one with Red curry hot and man oh man did it tame the heat. My first sip was somewhat on the sweeter side, but after starting to eat, it turned out to be a fine beer for something so spicy. Wasn't going to drop $20 on a sixer for this unless @champ103 gives up the Kroger with the discount .

I paid $17 plus tax. You never know when it’s coming around again, so you pay whatever is remotely reasonable. Really at $4 a beer it’s what you would pay for any shit beer in about any bar. It’s very easily worth $3-4 a beer everything considered, really a no brainer here based on price alone. Just my opinion here, but at that abv and the malt they had to use I wouldn’t expect it might be all that age friendly. I could see this turning into a cloying mess say at 3 months old or so. Fresher the better here.

on 11th in the heights, give it a try..no guarantee they might have corrected the price already...I haven't had a chance to go back yet.

Edit: your turn, what was the Thai place? I think Bells and spicy curry are perfect together.

A little out of your area Naam Khao Thai Kitchen & Bar on Eldridge. My wife has been staying with her parents, think we are going to have to move in there pretty soon. If you find yourself out that way check this place out, good selection of Bells and good food. Then while you are there, head over to Ashford Pub down the street, he still has KBS/CBS on tap from 2018, and is usually the first place in Houston to get their kegs. Every now and then he will throw on an old BA keg that has some age on it. Getting to know all the places out there since it might be my neighborhood pretty soon

I paid $12.99 in CT.. I think the beer store mistakenly priced it as regular Two Hearted, lol.

I thought 11% was too much. It was big and bold, but a bit overbearing on the sweet malt. I didn't get any citrus notes, but I did get raisin, prune, and actually some bourbon notes. I had a Todd the Axe Man (Also now in CT!) before the DTH. Woke the next morning with a wicked headache. I never get headaches after two beers. Not sure if coincidence, or caused by the beer.

Probably the beer, big DIPAs usually get me, sometimes even after just one too.

I believe I saw Redstone and Ball Square Liquors got some in.

Well, by my math that is equivalent to 4.12 standard drinks (or a 5% ABV 12 oz. beer).

If you had those in a short period of time, I could see you having a headache.

Good point, and perfect math. (I checked, lol). It was about 2 hours, and if I was already slightly dehydrated, that is very likely. It's just rare I wake up with a headache even after having more beers.

I think I saw at least two people compare Double to Waldo's by Lagunitas and I think it is a fair comparison; however, I thought Double Two Hearted was a more complex and satisfying beer. I only bought a bottle of it because I thought it would be too boozy for me based on the some of the comments in this thread. Thankfully I found it to be one of the most balanced larger IPAs I have come across. I can't imagine drinking more than one of them in a sitting; it is definitely a great beer to share with a friend.

I couldn't respectfully disagree more. I have gone through a 6pk of both Waldo's & DTH in the last few weeks and Waldo's wins hands down on all fronts, and that's a over a 6 months brew and my least vintage from the past 4 years.

As far as the comparison between this and Waldo's, I'm not sure which I like more, but I don't think they are all that similar. Waldo's is an abrasive palate wrecker, whereas DTH is pretty smooth.

Especially the first batch of Waldos that came out. To my palate, no contest.

Been keeping my eye out for this in Vegas for a while and thought we missed the boat. This week they did a major drop of it at many retailers. I figured would be an older batch that finally made its way here but the six packs I saw were bottled on September 12. Nice!

Cracked open first bottle last night. My expectations were quite high considering the ratings on Untappd. It was good. Bit below what might have been too lofty of expectations though. Could benefit from a couple more weeks in the bottle. Tad hot and while it had that Two Hearted citrus note it came across more as acrid Hop bitterness. Still a good beer. Looking forward to how the rest taste. Think I’ll space out over the next month or two to see how it evolves.

I think the six I bought was 4-5 weeks old, and it was really good. I don’t suspect this will age all that well given the heavy malt and abv, but I’m thinking 3 months on the outside. Could be it does have a sweet spot in there somewhere. A nice for a one beer at a time pop, twos too much, at least for me.
