It's about the same sweetness but without the slight honey taste that you can get from Hopslam.

Plus, alcohol adds sweetness. I think a lot of people forget that. Hard not to be sweet when combining the malt load and alcohol.

Honestly never thought about that, but I haven’t had much luck with big beers that topped much over 9%. I still think 8% or so is really the sweet spot. I really don’t drink many ipas in the 7% range either, I usually find most are a bit too bitter.

I agree 8 -8.5% is the sweet spot for dipa and under 7% for ipas. Always exceptions to the rule of course

Two Hearted was my go-to before a massive palate change....I’ll have to try one  Go Bucks.

I'll definitely try it. 10% IPA's are extremely hit or miss for me. I kinda wish this was 8% but it is what it is. Two Hearted is one of the most drinkable beers above 7% I've ever had, so hopefully this isn't too overwhelming.

I had to venture into Michigan (which is just over the state line from me in northern Indiana) and go to a couple stores and could only purchase 3 bottles, but #MissionAccomplished. We'll see if this hits retail shelves in Indiana next week (I believe it will).

Two Hearted was the first IPA I tried ..... 11 or 12 years ago, and is still a favorite, especially when it's really fresh, so I'm pretty stoked to try the imperial version, which is very fresh (bottled 8/22/19). I'm stoked to try it for this week's NBS (shout out to that glorious thread's magnificent leaders @cjgiant and @lordofthewiens ).

Know of only 4 stores that I frequent (southeast MI) and they usually get the good stuff before anyone else that received a shipment today. All but 1 store sold out with in hours. They are releasing their allotment at 6pm. But am expecting the same turn out.
From what I've been hearing other stores will get theirs over the weekend and thru out the week. :beers:

If only @VABA and I could get this beer in our state, we could all review it the same day. Although he might not have the patience.

Also please ignore we live really close to two other states (no idea if they can get Bell’s either)

If I’d planned this correctly, I’d have acquired this on Wednesday and FedEx’d each of you a bottle to arrive today so we could do that.

“If” is a really big word.

PS: if you want, I’ll hold off and wait for you guys to pick it up, or buy more this coming week and send you each a bottle so we can do the NBS reviews next Sunday. That is a solution that I can easily provide.

Really appreciate the thought, but go forward this weekend. It’ll be my next fun beer to “chase”, like Bamburana (which was great). I’ll check out your review and see if my desire to search harder increases.

I don’t have any scientific info that supports that claim. I homebrew and listen to a lot of podcasts. Many brewers in those podcasts talk about brewing high abv beers and a challenge is keeping the sweetness down on beers like IPAs where you don’t want that sweetness. They state alcohol adds sweetness. For ipas Julian of Beachwood says he uses no crystal or any malt that can add sweetness because the high abv will make it sweet already. Also, homebrewers Denny Con and Drew Beechum talk about alcohol adding sweetness to beer. They could all be wrong though.

I bet we don’t get any here, I would have liked to see them stay in that 8-8.5 range. Above that it gets tricky with the too sweet, but Neshaminy Creek pulls it off with Shape of Hops at 9.5 Abv, and it’s most definitely not a sweet beer. That’s a big boy beer and a 5 hop combo.

Had no trouble grabbing this today - there were about 10 or so cases at my local place. Also saw 6-packs here in New Buffalo, MI. Looking forward to giving it a try.

Has Bell's ever mentioned why this isn't simply called 4 hearted? Seems like that would be the obvious name for it.
