Dovetail appreciation thread

You may want to confirm if you haven't already. Odd wording in the below link. Are they talking about today, or Saturday?

In case anyone misunderstood the situation, Kriek is not for sale to go on Saturday. You are only buying bottles in advance. None is available for on site consumption or to go until July.

 

I’m confused...it’s referring to the 6/23 tour, which is Saturday. Maybe they changed the wording since you linked it. They did confirm to me that the tour is on this weekend as well. Just a matter of how busy it’ll be. I’m optimistic due to X02 being readily available (im assuming that) and the Kriek tickets not being on sale until later in the day and it won’t be on tap.

 

Yeah, it looks like they updated the link. When I originally posted it, it said no tour on Sat 6/23. Anywho, hopefully it goes well for you. I've been meaning to do that tour myself.

 

A group of us did the tour and also rented out the space in the back on the same day to do our fantasy basketball draft. Really enjoyed the tour, I don't do them at many breweries, but seeing the take from a place doing traditional styles with a coolship was very interesting.

 

Yeah, I was kinda bummed they aren’t tasting the Kriek on Saturday as well. I guess they’re banking on it “selling itself”?

 

Well the Kriek is a significantly more popular style than X01, and they probably have less of it. Probably hedging their bets so they don't get slammed like a lot of breweries around here do when they start releasing stuff.

 

On Instagram, they said they’re waiting to have the first kegs tapped at Hopleaf, and want to do something cool.

I’m regards to the tour, I’d just shoot them an email. They super cool guys, and I’m sure if you just explain the situation, they’ll make sure you have a spot.

 

I saw that about Hopleaf. Don’t we all want to do something cool? I thought it a bit strange that they mentioned Hopleaf, honestly, as oppposed to doing something in house.

And, I emailed and FB messaged them. No response to the email, but they responded to FB to confirm tour is on and the timing. Definitely no mention of saving a spot.

 

Went to Dovetail Saturday night around 7pm to try their X02. The beer was interesting as it was very easy drinking with a touch of funk. As with all of Dovetail's beers, this was a damn fine beer. Ended up grabbing a bottle of X01 to-go and 2 "tickets" for Kriek when it's released in July.

Dovetail is such an under-the-radar brewery. To make a sports analogy, they remind me of the San Antonio Spurs. They aren't flashy but their fundamentals are on point. Their brews are a great option for traditional/classic styles.

I ended up doing the tour on Saturday with the wife - there were only 2 other people, so it was nice and intimate. They served the Lager, Rauchbier and Hefeweizen - I liked the varying styles to try. Tour was very informative, and easy to ask questions. I was amazed at the number of barrels they have up there.

I tried X02 on tap, and would echo the comments of @ravens_wood about it. I grabbed a bottle of that, and bought a couple tickets for Kriek for myself, and a couple tickets for buddies. I heard a staff member say they are expecting Hopleaf to have Kriek on tap on 7/10, but they won't have it at Dovetail until the pickup window.

 

Yes, we did do the water tasting. Very interesting indeed. They really do care about the details there.

 

Had my last bottle of X01 tonight with some BBQ ribs, was saving it for a summer cookout night. It's drinking very well right now, the balance of smoke & funk is right on.

 

Kriek pick-ups at draft pours begin at Dovetail tomorrow if you pre-purchased certificates in June. I'm sure walk-in purchases will be availabe like X01.

Excited to give it a whirl on draft. It's been on draft this week at Hopleaf, but haven't made the 10 minute walk to try it out.
