    The Saison is really nice.

Got yer ester-y notes, of course, but also nice orange peel & soft wheat vibes which make this a real nice spring sipper.

It appears these sold out pretty quick; I gave a can to a fellow beer geek outside the brewery who had left empty-handed. Can't leave a neckbeard behind!!

Saison was decent. I hope they keep brewing saisons and play with different recipes. It could also be awesome for blending

Memorial Day Weekend - End Times - Dovetail Slurpee

I wasn't particularly surprised when Revolution rolled out the Beer Slushy machine at the brewpub last week.

But colour me shocked when Dovetail joined the fray, available weekends in the Biergarten through the end of Summer.

WGN asked Mikerphone Brewery owner Mike Pallen for a response on the latest developments, his clip shown below.

I support anything that helps breweries (and bars/restaurants) after the past two plus years, as long as it doesn't adversely impact their core mission/products, which I don't fear with either brewery. Just somewhat surprised Dovetail took the jump.

Dovetail is very tradition focused with their beers, but I feel like they don't take themselves too seriously. They've done a number of mulled versions of their lambics in the winter months, so a iced smoothie version for the summer isn't that crazy.

Agreed, and it is smart business, especially in that neighborhood where a large number of their customers are not necessarily beer geeks but just folks stopping in while walking their four legged or wheeled (strollers) "children".

That said, you could have gotten good odds in Vegas if you plopped a bet down a few years ago that Dovetail would be one of the first breweries in Chicago serving beer slurpees.

They had a mulled version using their pomme and it was incredible. They do such a good job with those.

Are these machines expensive? It seems like a great move if it is just “something extra” and doesn’t cost them much or take away from everything else they do. I can see lots of people wanting to come in and have one for the next 4 months.

I’m no heathen, but I definitely drink iced Lattes in the summer over hot. Seems like a good analogy.

There is perhaps a difference between having some fun vs. the only thing perceived as marketable is quadruple-hopped imperial fruited seltzer slushy beer (tm). The latter will probably take over Binny’s next year, and Dovetail can say they got in on the ground floor.

Saison is back! 4 packs and on draft (and on draft at Hopleaf, which is how I found out).

I'm at Dovetail, having the Helles. Where did they get their reputation? I'm totally not impressed.

Wow. Very surprised, especially at the source. I've had their Helles on tap and loved the hell (no pun intended -- at all) out of it (if not their canned version).

First beer of the day, or..?

Ron Pattinson has sung its praises, too. @patto1ro

And how the hell did you get across the border check without us knowing?

Yeasty, Grainy, minerally finish, Herbstoffe. Is that enough for you? My first of the day, but they had poured plenty before mine. People haves said it was very good, but a couple of people said don't bother, but I had to try it for myself.

I was drinking Schönramer Helles at Churchkey in DC a few weeks ago, that was as good as I remember at the brewery in Bavaria.

Border? Leaving tomorrow for 2 weeks in the UK. The 4 weeks in Germany. If I have anything like the one I had today I will let you know.

On my way to 4 weeks in Germany. I'll let y'all know if I have anything like this one today. I've spent over 2 years of my life there. You?

Gotta tell ya man, your replies are sounding just a little defensive and surly -- I can say I'm not questioning you on your perception (and the border comment was a joke -- really wish we'd known you were coming).

I've had good and bad luck with Dovetail myself, but the draft versions have always been very good, so I was genuinely surprised to hear you were getting bad beer at the source.

That said, I think there's some lack of consistency in the brewery, so that's why I'm asking about your impressions -- not putting you on the spot.

Have a good trip to Europe -- check the attitude in an airport locker, the trip will be more fun.

I'm disappointed, the reputation was stellar, the beer I had was not.

If I have beers not to style in Munich or Bamberg I will let you know.

The border joke - I don’t know exactly when or how it developed - but it’s been a playful joke between those god aweful FIB (Fucking! Illinois Bastards) and the people of Michigan. Often a joke in the old Bourbon County threads (with MI —> Chi) and then in reverse when it came to certain MI releases (BA expedition, Transient stouts in particular, and likely No Rules at one point). Personally, I have no dog in this race. I hate you both for me not living in the beer land that is Chicagoland.

Hope you enjoy your trip overseas. Sounds wonderful. A bit jealous, but who on this site wouldn’t be? Stay safe and report back. Also, be sure to join in on the Oktoberfest thread in the general section once it opens.
