I was wondering if anyone knew if Down the Road Brewery is going to open or is it permanently closed? I know that the founder passed away in early August; but, there hasn't been any information on the status of the brewery. Thanks.
This article is a few weeks old, but it's probably the latest info out there. http://everettindependent.com/2019/...away-leaves-popular-brewery-in-the-lurch/amp/
New Oxbow location. I, for one, can't wait to see what wild yeasts that cool ship can pick up in the beautiful night air in Everett.
Trillium, since they've opened up taprooms or beer gardens virtually everywhere else now . I'd actually be most surprised if Night Shift was the acquirer. I'd love to see Mystic acquire them but agree that's a dark horse. Trying to think of who would be looking to expand and could use this spot geographically. It would be a great place for a proper Clown Shoes taproom. Jack's Abby could use a second tap room north of Boston and would be different enough from other nearby breweries.
I don't know if it makes sense for a brewery that is a town or two over. It's gotta be a brewery looking to expand its footprint within the Boston area (across?). I feel like a lot of established players have been mentioned, but it's likely not any of the ones mentioned so far.
Night Shift is still contract brewing some of their stuff because they've maxed out their own production, right? I guess the DTR brewing facility probably isn't big enough to make a difference for them, but they do seem like they're in the empire business... I'd love it if Idle Hands was doing well enough to take on a second production facility, kinda doubt it though.
Tell that to Nightshift and Trillium. My cousin and I joked about that. Can you imagine the traffic with the casino RIGHT there?
Mystic would be ideal. Excuse the thread drift, but anyone know what the crowds have been like at Mystic? Thinking of making the drive up today to pay my respects.
I just don't think that the location works for Trillium (not high profile enough) and it doesn't make sense for NS to open another brewery close to where they already are. At least LJ allowed them to get into the city proper and get by the Garden which is not the best bar scene in the city (you could certainly argue NS is out of place there). Brighton/Alston seems much more befitting of Notch. Mystic makes some sense but does moving down the road a little alleviate the problems that they currently have that has made it so they're not continuing?
I wasn’t really referring specifically to those two moving in that space. I was just responding to your comment that a brewery wouldn’t want to open another location close to their original, or just one town over. Because it’s seemed to work well for both Nightshift and Trillium. If it allows them to brew more beer it could.
I think it depends on the situation for a brewery opening a second location fairly close by. For Night Shift it was a different type of venue, I don't think they are brewing that much at Love Joy. Love Joy is family friendly whereas the brewery is more of a bar atmosphere. They compliment each other. Trillium's new venues are mostly "beer gardens" right? The other option is not opening a second location but doing a full move. Someone like Idle Hands could do a complete move and then have another brewery move in to their space. Not sure how much brewing capacity their space has vs DTR's. That's what Jack's Abby did, Exhibit A moved into their old space. Mystic's original plans were to open the second location fairly close by, the original location's usage was a bit up in the air. They probably have enough growth to handle that much more capacity as well as it being somewhat optimal for them to have the original location dedicated to barrel aged or even getting back into sours. So I agree with you that a second location nearby isn't necessarily a bad thing depending on the situation.
