My roommate is going up to Boston for work for a day and will have a couple hours to find some tasty stuff to bring back. He'll be staying at a hotel on Portland Street (which looks to be smack dab in the middle of downtown on google maps.) Does anybody know any good stores nearby? I'm specifically looking for Gandhi Bot, Jack's, Night Shift, and Prairie beers, but Gandhi is the top priority. If you guys can help me out with the names of places I can call I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

My beer travels don't take me to that side of the little city, so I can't help on that front - but one of the regulars here put together this list that shows the better bottle shops.

JA and Night Shift seem to be in just about all of the better bottle shops I've been to in the area. Gandhi Bot is pretty much a no-go, I've not seen it in MA in well over a year. You may have access to it locally, but if you don't you may want to have them grab a bottle of Pretty Things - top notch stuff.

Nebco does not currently distribute in MA. No Gandhi.

Tip: Use the map link and filter out bars/breweries to see only stores.

I've only ever seen Prairie Hop and Gold in Mass. But I have seen them both at BWE.

Gandhi barely exists in CT, nevermind MA where it officially doesn't exist

Boston Wine Exchange is best for downtown. Not the cheapest, but only a couple bucks more than other places.

I got a bunch of Jacks Abby stuff, Plead the 5th, 2 Sucaba and a few other things that they bought out from their basement when I was talking to one of the younger kids who works there so I may have overstated that they have alot in the basement but theres definitely some stuff down there that wasnt on the floor. Also, nice Whisk(e)y/scotch collection and they will talk to you about that for hours.

I've been there quite a few times but never thought about a secret stash. Although it wouldn't help me too much since I never know what I want when I go into a store.

I think the secret stash place is actually at the place across the street from the state street T station. ( don't recall the name )

That's Federal Wine and Spirits. They have a very, very limited - though high quality - selection. I would probably still suggest Boston Wine Exchange.

Yup just looked back at my bank statement both were recommended to me when I made my trip. Federal was the secret stash place. My bad.

Federal Wine has a secret stash, pretty much only a guy named Nate can tell you what's down there. And let me say, GOD HELP YOU, if you wait for him to return your emails. However, Di De Ceil(sp) 2010 Mortal Sin(translated) can be had. It's super good.

Actually saw some at Supreme Liquor on Massachusetts near the Central Square stop on the Red Line.

    Don't recall which though.
