I spend a lot of time in Suburban Philly driving around and highly limiting my consumption because of it. This weekend I may have a chance to leave the car behind and take the Septa into Suburban Station to visit a relative and would like to hit a few good places while I'm there. I'm doing some research but would love to hear other's recommendations. Was thinking of Nodding Head, Tria, Farmer's Cabinet, etc. What's a cant miss location? I know I'm coming a week or two too late, couldn't do anything about that for the 2nd year in a row. Also, does anyone do samplers/flights? I can also look all this up but do I have to transfer trains if I'm coming in from Swarthmore? I'm game to walk a bit, not interested in cabbing around town. Also who will fill my growler with PtY (KIDDING)??

From Suburban Station, you can easily hit the places you mentioned plus Good Dog, Monk's, Misconduct and Jose's. Varga and the new Cambridge would be a few more blocks. Fergie's is in range too as is Woody's.

I think another option is walking up to the Art Museum area and checking out, Kite and Key, London grill, Belgian Cafe, Bridgid's, Bishop's Collar... I don't frequent that neighborhood a whole lot and don't really know how close those bars are to each other.

When in CC, though usually it's Monk's, Jose Pistola, and Farmer's Cabinent for me. New place Boilermaker seems cool too

Yeah there are dozens of places within walking distance. Tria, Jose Pistolas, Monks, Nodding Head, Good Dog, Misconduct are all within walking distance. You can also try the Tria - Washington Square if you'd rather travel south towards the Farmers Cab and Varga, though that's a much longer walk than just staying in the Rittenhouse area.

No transfer of trains if going into the city from Swarthmore. You can get off at 30th Street for anything within walking distance (including a small but nice place right in the train station). You can go on to Suburban Station or on to Market East. So anything you find within walking distance of any one of the three of them its one train in and one train back to Swarthmore.
